A few points from a 63 year old who grew up in WV.

1. When i was growing up, calling someone a fag meant he was a wuss or *****. You're such a faggot would have same meaning as you're such a *****. The word itself isnt offensive, but it depends on the context.

Eh, it still was, it just shows the etymology. As with many other slurs against gay men, it had its roots in feminine insults being applied to men with more feminine traits that many gay men often have been viewed to have.

per wiki:
"The word faggot has been used in English since the late 16th century as an abusive term for women, particularly old women,[6] and reference to homosexuality may derive from this,[5][7] as female terms are often used with reference to homosexual or effeminate men (cf. nancy, sissy, queen). The application of the term to old women is possibly a shortening of the term "faggot-gatherer", applied in the 19th century to people, especially older widows, who made a meager living by gathering and selling firewood.[7] It may also derive from the sense of "something awkward to be carried" (compare the use of the word baggage as a pejorative term for old people in general).[5]"

Also, as someone in high school in the late 90's/early 00's, I heard "that's gay" and "that's Jewish" used approximately 100 times a day. Half the teachers wouldn't even say anything and the ones that did would have a very light "tsk tsk" type reaction. I don't recall knowing a single person who actually got in trouble for using those phrases. Crazy how much things have changed in 20 years (in a good way).

Same minus the "thats Jewish". I have never heard of that phrase.

2. Mike Gundy used the "N" word and wasnt fired.

3. Huggins is a legend at WVU, and has the number 1 portal class coming in.

The AD has been the Ad for like 6 months.....

What i think would be appropriate is this.
A. no suspension or firing.
B. He donates A LOT of money to a Gay cause.
C. He agrees to retire after next season.

An immediate firing would torpedo the program, and that isnt fair to the players, donors, or fans.
Gundy used the N word? I don’t remember that

I could see b and maybe a couple game suspension but I don’t think wvu would want to lock themselves into a coaching change after next season. Suspend him for a few games. Then if he has a poor season (with the class he has), fire him after the next. But if he has a great season, you’ve already suspended him and he’s made amends with the community he’s offended.

Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy was accused in 1989 of saying the N-word multiple times to opponents when he was playing quarterback for the Cowboys. The allegation is receiving new attention after one of the players who made that claim three decades ago repeated it this week.
OP sure insinuated it was Mike
I didnt realize it was in the distant past.

I just watched an old episode of All in the Family, which was popular when I was in high school. Archie had no problem dropping the F word. By the way, I do find it hilarious to hear the kids are chuckling dildos onto the court.

Please. A bundle of sticks morphed into a reference to a gay person because someone who was found out to be gay in that time period was burned at the stake over a “bundle of sticks “. JFC quit trying to minimize the word. Everyone who has used it knew it was a gay slur.
Settle down. I’m not minimizing the word. I also didn’t make up the word or its etymological history.

Wonder if Joe T hits the portal? Coming from a “cheating motherf’er” coach to a religion gay bashing coach, if he transferred what would the next coach be like?

Fascinating the reasons people put forward for what should happen, or why people should or shouldn't act in response. I bolded the four most interesting to me.

To me, I look at it as if this was a person saying these when he was in any sort of high level position. If this was my current boss or CEO of my company that was on a podcast or interview and said this I would resign on the spot. You don't just accidentally say these words...you just don't. If my boss/CEO wasn't fired, so be it, but I wouldn't want any part of them or the org.

Have people read the context around the quote? Because it definitely makes it much more abhorrent imo. It wasn't like he just said, "Ah those Catholic **** are so annoying". Which wouldn't be good or anything but what he said and the context around it was way worse than that.

He also said it twice. And the whole context of the conversation was derogatory to multiple groups
