1995: Samedi Soir sur la terre by Francis Cabrel
Native of the south of France, Cabrel's "Corrida" was a song about the cruelty of bull-fighting.
The singer in the song is a full who, prior to being released into the arena, "I've been waiting a long time in this dark chamber" and then goes towards the light. At first, he thinks he's supposed to only defend himself, but then he sees that there's no way out. So, he decides he's going to get "that ridiculous ballerina" and says that the bullfighter's wife is gonna sleep like a rock that night since he would be dead.
As the fight progresses, the bull says, "He strikes hard in my neck so that I will bow down."
Of course, the bull is slowly assassinated to the cheers of the crowd and as he dies, he repeats the chorus "Est-ce que ce monde est sérieux ?" which means, "Is this world serious?"
Stellar hit and still popular today.
