This Wildcat will be watching the Cyclones on ESPN+ come Saturday. I sign up for ESPN+ on a yearly basis because it saves me a few dollars. Because I live in Ames, ESPN+ probably thinks I am a Clone fan and reports it that way to ISU. I really do not mind.

My retirement budget does not allow me to attend a bunch of K-State games every year. ESPN+ is an affordable way for me to see a couple football games and many, many KSU basketball. volleyball, soccer, and baseball games. It is relatively cheap entertainment for this old man.

Yea, quite a few ISU hoops games were on ESPN+ last season. It looks like most Cyclone basketball non-con games are on ESPN+ this season. Also 6 Big12 games are on ESPN+. So probably time to resubscribe.

Welcome to the future- Apps like ESPN+, Peacock, Paramount+, Prime, etc. are the future of live sports.

Oh the days of turning the antenna to watch channel 5 are gone forever!
Damn it why cant they leave things alone.

That was a real b*tch if it was raining real hard or a snow storm.

What you choose to pay for is a completely different “problem” than overall accessibility of a streaming sports network.

ESPN+ gets third tier broadcast rights for the Big 12. The fact it’s basically November before a section of the fan base even has to think of how to watch a game relegated to third tier rights is in and of itself a sign of good things.

So for those willing to pay a few bucks to watch all Cyclone sports year round (Olympic sports and women’s basketball included), ESPN+ is ridiculously accessible on every smartphone, computer, and modern TV set.
The problem and this was basically the same issue with basketball is that there has been one third tier game for football a year in the past. We already had that game with UNI this year. The only exception was the LHN games. Now they are creeping into games that used to be on regular tv. That’s the problem.

Long term I’m fine with streaming but internet access isn’t good enough yet. I will get it as I was going to get it here soon anyway for basketball but this isn’t a good thing.

It is frustrating that my LG smart TV doesn’t have an ESPN app available. I will have to cast it from my phone to watch it.

One option:
If you have a laptop it should have an HDMI jack as should the TV.

HDMI cables cost around $10-20.

I think they also make phone>TV HDMI adapters but I've never used one.

I can do both of those options, although my phone to hdmi adapter is hit or miss. You would think that a smart TV with over a thousand apps would have the ESPN app but I’ll make do.

That would make too much sense and not require you to go buy more stuff if you want that to happen though.

Maybe it's because I enjoy watching the UFC, but I think the ESPN+ match-up could be a draw for 'casual' eyeballs this weekend as UFC 267 is a free stream on ESPN+ for 'stateside' folks and the PPV stream will be for the rest of the world.

Fights start at 10:00 and will likely be ending around kickoff of the ISU v. WVU game - I think some will 'stick around' on ESPN+ to watch the BigXII match-up.

I see people saying that "casual fans" won't watch the games this way, and I don't think they understand how streaming TV works.
For example, if you get the Hulu Live TV package and have ESPN+, the games all show up in the same row of "Live Sports" looking just like games on other networks. There is no need to go to a separate app or even search really. I never pay any attention to what network something I want to watch is on, because it doesn't matter. It's just a picture of the game that I click on and watch it.
I assume Youtube, Sling, etc probably work roughly the same way. It might be even more convenient for "casual fans" than switching between channels.

Ive spent thousands of dollars going to road games, but i wont spend any to watch on ESPN+. ESPN killed the Big East, now they tried to kill the Big 12. Screw them.

id love to watch the WVU v ISU game, but im not.
Ill just have to listen to it on radio.

Bunch of “too cool for school 11th graders in here” you’re not making a difference, ESPN doesn’t care if you watch or not, ESPN revels in your self induced misery.

Yeah, my LG TV doesn't either which means on that TV I have to access through the browser which is clumsy to say the least or hook my laptop up through an HDMI cable. I usually do the latter since the browser option is not terribly reliable. On my older Vizio TV I have an Xfinity box and I can simply say "ESPN+" into the voice remote and the App fires right up. I will be watching on the slightly smaller TV for the convenience of it.

It isn't bad, but change is hard with anything. To all those that are dragging their feet, remember change is optional but so is survival.

Casuals don’t tend to have a subscription to ESPN+. While streaming is growing there is still a large segment of the population who can’t, doesn’t know how, or won’t stream. Streaming is almost certainly the future but we are trying to push stuff about 5-10 years to early for regular people.
