Nice language!

from Wikipedia, Socialism refers to a broad array of doctrines or political movements that envisage a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community .....

Hillary will take your money for the 'common good' - sounds like Socialism

Hillary will have HillaryCare - Socialized Medicine; killing the best health care system in the world. Patients from socialized medicine

Hillary will take your money for kid vouchers - sounds like socialism

Hillary will take your money to give out more welfare - sounds like socialism

and the list goes on ... as she promises more and more to get elected.

Be afraid, be very afraid

Bob
Thank you for saving me the time of rebutting that ridiculous post. People who support socialist ideas hate to have it correctly labelled, because of the negative connotation it cares (and rightly so). They would much rather call it progressive, or something else that hides the true meaning.

You are not capped at 15%. For 2007 you can contribute $15,500.

If you make $31,000 you can contribute 50%. If you make $103,333 then it would be about 15% of your salary.

I believe the law used to have a maximum percentage with a maximum amount. Now it is just a maximum amount.

Huh, did not know that. My employers forms still have 15% as the max. I better check into that.

What's wrong with my language? You don't like English?

Also from Wiki:
The term socialism is often used to refer to an economic system characterized by state ownership of the means of production and distribution
And from the dictionary:
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
Where does Hillary propose the government take over of any industry?

Using the tax code to incentivize behavior is NOT socialism.

If you want to see what socialism looks like, take a look at Hugo Chavez's Venezuela, where the government has taken over the several industries.

I'm not afraid of someone helping poor people. That's not scary. What is scary is another neo-conservative chickenhawk getting elected and expanding Bush's perpetual war.

You missed Social Security, that is the biggest socialist program the US has.

Ok, so what is your solution. I am sick of people declaring this a never ending war, and then offering no solution. You want to pull out and let them have a nice civil war for the next 30 years?

The government providing health insurance automatically eliminates the need for private health insurance under a certain income level, thus socializing it. Businesses will no longer provide health insurance for lower income employees. They will simply direct their employees to the proper government channels. In the absence of free market, there is socialism.

I wasn't talking specifically about the Iraq war. I was talking about the amorphous 'War on Terror', which doesn't have a specific enemy, rather is fighting a tactic. The Iraq War, as much as Bush wants to argue otherwise, had nothing to do with the War on Terror.

But Bush has used the War on Terror to greatly expand the power of the executive branch. And now there are people specifically arguing to invade or bomb Iran under the same Authorization to Use Military Force that was passed by Congress immediately after 9/11. James Madison warned against perpetual war while the constitution was being written. I believe he called it "the greatest threat to this country" or something like that, because there are great powers given to the president during war, and if the president always has those powers the balance of power in our government is thrown off.

That is what scares me about another neo-conservative chickenhawk like Giuliani.

I can understand what Hillary is trying to do with this proposal (ween people off of social security), but it needs to be done in conjunction with some sort of social security reform. We (as in my generation) can't keep paying into the social security void with no hope of return. :(

In the abscence of free market, there is socialism.

Also, if you want lowest common denominator "free" healthcare, then by all means support the government provided plan.

You keep using that word, but I don't think it means what you think it means.

Many of Hilary's plans (and Obama's are worse) may not be the exact definition of socialism but they are sure closer to socialism than capitalism.

The word I would use is economic socialism.

Didn't Hilliary want to cap oil company profits? That's maybe not in the classic definition of socialism but it's sure trending that way.

Cap a public companies profits??? That would destroy the economy. Our entire economy is built on companies being able to charge whatever they want for their products.

One problem I have with that, is oil companies will sell to whoever wants to buy, they do not set the price, the speculators set the price, it is a commodity, just like corn, grain, beef, etc.

Employers set different percentage limits, for reasons that have never been clear to me. And eventually, you may run into the "highly compensated employee" rules, which also vary from company to company.

The Oil Producing States have a lot more impact on the supply of oil than do American oil companies.

Our current corporate tax system needs to be scrapped. I'm not even convinced the government should be taxing corporations.

Sounds very socialistic to me to tax inheritances at higher level and then pay out to lower income people. Like the farm inheritance will be distributed around the country when someone dies. That is what Shrill Hill is a favorite of those people. I would rather tax the stock market benefactors to pay for it who will make the bucks off further investing top drive up the stock market. SAome might say also that $1000 per year will not make much of a big diff in the end when you retire.
