You know how you can tell Gumbel was an all time great... there was no reason to dislike him. You could never tell what side he was rooting for in any contest... just the facts.

Not like a Herbstreit as an example who is so biased towards tOSU and the B1G. Gumbel... I never had any idea what his allegiances were... if he had any??

What I appreciated Gumbel most was he wasn’t about himself. There are a lot of sport broadcasters who want to draw attention to themselves. Rather, he wanted to give attention to the players
