Holmes Mazda?

Ramsey has Mazda, Subaru, Buick, and GMC.

So I wonder if they say you must "close your dealership" if it's only for one brand. So for example, we know that Ponitac is going away but can Ramsey still sell Buick and GMC if GM tells them to "close".

I can't imagine that GM could force a dealer to close if they want to sell non-GM cars, but government can do some crazy things. Ramsey is one of three Subaru dealers in Iowa, so that and Mazda might be enough to keep them afloat.

Not within 25 miles, but I wonder if Marshalltown's Clemons Chevrolet will make it. I know multiple people have had issues with this dealership (family member included) and they are definently getting a bad reputation as of late.

I'll tell you who the smartest dealer in Des Moines is......Jordan Motors who sold out a couple of years ago. That was about perfect timing before the crash when dealerships were still worth something.

I don't see Benson making it anyway.

George White needs to be able to make a run solely as a Checy dealer, with Karl right down the road. That's gonna be tough.

I might like Clemons chances better just based on the fact that I don't like those other two.

Wilson, I think, could be just fine.

Honestly, I am not sure whether or not Wilson of Ames would lose any sleep if they lost their GM franchise. They used to have Oldsmobile and Cadillac, but obviously now have only Cadillac. My guess is they move Toyota/Scion at a 20:1 clip over Cadillac. The smartest decision they ever made was buying the Toyota franchise a number of years ago.

Without question, they are the absolute best dealership I have ever done business with (which is saying something because I am 56 years old). I have purchased my last two cars from them, and have also dealt with both their service department and body shop and would give them a 10 on a scale of 1-10. They are honest people and just plain and simple treat their customers right!

Shottenkirk just built a big brand new facility so I would think they are around for the long haul.

Karl and Bob Brown for sure, Holmes is mostly Mazda now I think. Ramsey is the one in trouble I think with Pontiac being discontinued.

Unfortunately the palaces may be the first to go as they have to make more money on a shrinking sales plus GM will allow less profit per car and govt wants smalol cars sold. The people who have their "plant" paid for might survive easier. I heard GM wants to go from 6,000 dealerships down to 3,000 dealerships. Wow. That is 100,000 lost jobs just at GM.

OK I was wrong, Holmes is Honda and Hyundai as well as Chevy but last time I drove by there I'm pretty sure Chevy was the least of the brands on the lots there.

Holmes Auto | Des Moines Honda | Des Moines Hyundai | Des Moines Chevrolet

I think there Chevy dealer must be outside of DM, I haven't see a GM vehicle there since they had Oldsmobile and GMC. I bet it was Oldsmobile that you were thinking of. There has been a lot of change in the last few years and a lot more to come. I just realized that Ramsey doesn't carry Porsche any longer.

The Holmes Chevy location was built in '07 and is on the outskirts of Norwalk.

I would think GM would keep George White and give them Cadillac. Then drop Wilson. Like you are saying they move Toyota cars not Cadillacs.

Are the bankruptcy talks at GM of the liquidation or the reorganization variety?

Although I haven't heard, it would have to be the reorganization variety. The President and the geniuses in Congress have made it pretty clear that they feel the economy couldn't handle one of the Big-3 automakers going out of business. Interesting logic, but that's the mantra.

Thanks W-back. Currently GM is offering 227 shares of common stock for 1 share of preferred. Not sure there will be many takers.

Maybe this county cannot handle having 3 auto companies and one going out may save the other 2 and the industry as a whole. Small town dealerships will be gone, they were slowing going away the past few years and were barely haning on before this. My money is on Brown, Karl, and Shottenkirk making it. We have had good luck with Shottenkirk, good price and great service.

I don't feel sorry for any of them. They were all born from the same prostitute. The owners have been living off of slave labor for years and have taken advantage of "Iowa's right to work state status" which in all actually translated means, "The owners can fire your sorry butts any time they wish for vertually any reason and the State of Iowa offers a salute for doing so.
Bitter? You bet your butt!

With two high schools and a shrinking tax base you better reconsider your options. You'll be paying tons of taxes to support two high schools "NEW" and people will be "Gettin outta Dodge" sort of speak.

GM would be making a huge mistake phasing out Saturn. Saturn is the closest brand that resembles similar 'foreign' vehicles. If GM markets Saturn more, I can see many Honda/Toyota/Nissan drivers switching back to the GM brand Saturn.
