Road?? oh hell no. walking/running is risky in most areas if you are lakeside.

Paved trails? None.

MTB? there are areas that are funnish, check out the MTB project app - you want to go early to beat the heat but you will be the first one to knock all the spider webs down.

if you don't have the money to golf or boat - its a disappointing place. that said I love it, my in-laws have a place and boat and they like to spoil their grandkids so I love just chilling on the dock / zipping up and down the main channel on the jet ski.

The state park is an fine hike.

Ozarks....any good cycling around there? Everything I've researched says that answer is no. Golf yes, cycling no.
Depends on what you mean by “Ozarks”.

Osage Beach? I think there’s a little single track, and no paved trails. Not really a destination.

NW Arkansas? The best single track on the planet.

That kinda confirms what I know. Been there a few times and it's great for boating and dock life but that's it. Wife and I are trying to find an empty nester home w

Yes, that Ozarks meaning Osage Beach area.

NWA is a mtb mecca. Have enjoyed quite a few trips there.

MOUNTAIN BIKING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

WELCOME TO BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS

One of the Walton's liked mountain biking and has invested a lot in the trails. The home prices in the area have skyrocketed.

Somebody in our CF club logged a 100 mile ride so I feel like I should come make excuses for not getting out much yet this season. I'll never bike 100 miles in a day but hope to at least get to 100 for a 10 day period period.

Excuses:
1. I am old, much old.
2. Bike time competed with bird photography walkabouts this spring since the weather gods seemed to not allow time for both.
3. Slothness

Have only gotten out 4 times but rides didn't go badly, just slower speed. Think I may have hit an age wall starting last year regarding speed. Guess the many many miles of walkabouts this winter and spring provided some fitness retention. Did get attacked by cobra chickens last week while biking by a pond. Damn, those big lake rats were going all angry bird. At least the chain and gears on the old hybrid are clean, did some spring cleanup and "...it's a clean machine". New tires for the roadie are still hanging in the garage though.

I processed a red wing black bird through my rear gear set. Bent a couple chain links but no other damage. The bird has ceased to be.

"processed" made me laugh. Squirrels scare me some. Seen a few pics of them getting caught in the spokes and causing a bad accident. Double tapped one a few years ago but it stayed out of the spokes n chain.

Looking for an intercom headset system as my wife and I are biking a lot and looking for something on communicate back and forth with. I've looked at the Sena PI systems but asking what others may be using. Seems the range is pretty limited like less than .5 miles. Just curious.

Been grounded for a couple of weeks. Between travel and weather I haven't been out at all. Damn lung killing air quality. Just no to any deep breathing in that red zone. Still at "Unhealthy for sensitive groups", aka orange, but going to have to get out anyway. Think it's going to be yellow and orange level as much as not all summer. Just maybe 86 rides on the red days.

This sucks.

Edit: Not in bike shape. 90 degrees and first five miles into a headwind after a couple of weeks off did not spark joy. And damn app paused and never started again mid ride.

I ended up going to the gym this and rode 15 miles on the stationary bike this morning. Humidity, smoke, and no wind create really stagnant air.

And if you want another good spot go up north to Cuyuna. Not quite as many miles of trails but its another "park your car for the week and just ride from your rental house" destination. A little bit lower key town but has good bars/restaurants. Really caters to the mtb tourists. (translation: they discovered we really like our beers)

Might need to figure out a place to mount a 2nd water bottle on the bike if it's going to be 90 all of the time. Or look for refill spots.

Going to hit 90's again. Will opt for a route with water refill, Mpls Chain of Lakes have some. Opted for "bike in the 90's" versus yesterday's wind at 15-20 mph with gusts up to 36 mph. Woof, just nope on that. Will take a rest spot, not looking to actually die.

If Strava shows me on a route that abruptly stops near the lakes it means I did die and you guys can fight over my bike gear (family doesn't bike). ;)

Registration is open for the great cycle challenge this year. You set a mile goal and ride in September raising money to support kids fighting cancer. You can have people donate per mile or just a fixed amount.
