They are preparing him for ISU coverage. =) Just kidding. Seems like a poor choice for clips. The news in sioux city does the same crap.

You will. The entire university is doing a great job in recruiting HB, from Geoffrey's office on down.

He is a VERY classy guy and I will cheer for him wherever he goes...excluding kansas.

I agree, and I'll likely want him to succeed in any game he plays that isn't against us.

But he has to know that he can be a catalyst to restoring Hilton Magic to its rightful place in ISU/Big 12 history, doesn't he? Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

Going to come down to how much attention he wants. If he wants to stay out of the spot light to some degree - ISU is not the place and Duke, UNC, or KU he would just be another McDonalds All American. But at ISU he is going to be embraced as the second coming and be highlighted from Day 1.

And that just may be one of the reasons he chooses not to come to ISU. I mentioned it last week.

It concerns me a bit at how much the fans are putting the future of ISU MBB on his shoulders.

You can try to say it's not happening all you want - but it is. I can pull up countless posts and I hear many conversations about how Barnes could fix this program.

That's a lot to carry.

He does seem very mature beyond his years and I'm glad he had a good time at Hiton on Saturday.

I wish him nothing but the best - let's just hope he has an urge to represent the 515 by staying at home with the good guys.

That's very true, but the great ones can live with the expectations. From what I've heard, he has the personality/smarts to be just fine. There are going to be huge expectations on him wherever he goes.

Go read other message boards. Duke and UNC have more threads about him than we do. Obviously there program is going to be ok with or without him, but there is pressure from every fan base in regards to HB.

Yes, fully aware. At ISU, it's a program-saving type of pressure - one that many put the fate of Greg's job on. Does any other program on his list have that going on right now? No.

I too believe Barnes could handle this - just saying - it's a ton to put on a kid.

Now you're just being silly. :)

I disagree, if he goes to UNC or Duke he will just be another McD all american and if he doesn't pan out - no one will notice there, compare that to ISU. If he is not able to live up to expectations from Day 1.

Fair enough, but I think someone who's been said to be a "one and done" caliber player would have the expectation to live up to the hype no matter where he went.

He's going to have big things expected of him wherever he goes, but they are just expectations of a different type.

There certainly would be a little more pressure on him at ISU...but hopefully he'd have a solid enough supporting cast that we wouldn't need to be counting on him to come in and score 20 a game as a freshman.

...also, SOME duke fans are saying Barnes is what will make or break their '10 class, despite already having two elite players signed for '10...I've also heard that the Dukies think he is a Grant Hill clone.

Pressure comes with being a top 5 recruit...and most of them relish it.

If I were Barnes, I would go to Iowa State. There is more opportunity for him at Iowa State than anywhere else. The spotlight will be on him all the way. If he can boost the confidence of Iowa State basketball and in a hurry. No coach can fix a program or rebuild a tradition without help from a strong athlete. Austin Arnaud could go anywhere to play D1 football but he chose to come to Iowa State, the same goes for Barnes' dad and even an average player like Alex Thompson. It doesn't matter how well you play ball, it matters if you can contribute to your community and bring back the glory of old days.

Duke or Kansas will get tremendous recruit all the time. Barnes will be just a player like many others who have come and gone at either of those schools. But in Ames and at Iowa State he will be THE player of the decade if not ages.

Its amazing how kids these days make stupid decisions to not become a role model and do the right things. I am not saying Barnes playing for Duke would be the wrong thing to do. All I am saying is Iowa State needs a solid athlete at this time and its THE best opportunity and perfect timing for him to come and play at Iowa State. The coach can't get the job done, the team is full of average players except for Brackins of course - why not become the next Cael Sanderson and do something amazing to keep the tradition alive. I mean his dad must have had a million reason to go elsewhere but he chose Iowa State - why not the son too?

I get so sick of people stating their opinion as fact. Even right there in your statements you contradict yourself "...this will NEVER happen" "...if I am wrong" Which word don't you know the meaning of, "never" or "wrong"? Sorry for the rant, you're not the only one who does this, but I'm tired of people declaring HB's intentions when he probably doesn't even know himself.

All I know is, with as much as ISU has done for him and his mother, and as much as he comes to Hilton and hangs out with the current team, to say "it will never happen" is absolutely ridiculous at this point.
