Iowa State and Northern Iowa were tied at 52 with 1:18 to play before the Panthers won 60-54. Diante Garrett had a turnover and three missed 3-point shots after the tie. Melvin Ejim and Bubu Palo committed fouls.
It was 69-all with 47 seconds left against California before the Bears won 76-73. What followed for the Cyclones included a Garrett turnover, and three missed shots by Ejim.
Saturday at Nebraska, Iowa State led 62-61 with 1:10 to play before losing 63-62 when Lance Jeter made the second of a two-free throw situation with .4 to play. What followed? Ejim missed a shot and Garrett committed a turnover. But before that, the Cornhuskers raced to a 12-4 lead and the Cyclones didn’t score after leading 62-58 with 3:40 left.

Without DG there wouldn't be a Clutch.

Exactly. The 2nd half was close because of the play of DG. He is the Arnaud of our basketball squad. Best chance to win with a few head scratchers here and there.

Like his careless time during the K-state game on the road last year, when he lead us to victory with Craig on the bench.

Regardless of if we would have been in that situation without DG or not the fact the OP made remains, when in the clutch we FAIL. I don't pin it all on DG but close games we need to game plan and execute better that's all there is to it. This team plays too hard to let it slip away at the end.

He was careless all game. It was what happens in Lincoln. That last timeout, he was sitting, staring off. Looked scared. No ice was running through his veins. He was struggling, tired, and made mistakes. This isn't the norm. It was Lincoln.

NU build a 10 point lead with him on the bench.
I think we just tried to milk too much clock at the end.
I'd rather see us run the offense with about 15 seconds
left to give time for something to develop rather than the
high screen with about six.

This has been an ongoing problem through the McDermott years, Freddy did not get hired soon enough to fix it. Three PG in the recruiting class should make a difference next year. meanwhile this is what we have. I do think it is time to try a different scheme at the end of close games. What did old Einstien say about repeating the same process and expecting a different result?

Sure, DG kept us in the game but this is the 3rd time this year when he bricked in the clutch. So something needs to change at the end of these close games, running a half court set is not DG's strongsuit.

Without Diante Garrett all you "Red Hots" on this board would be calling for Hoiberg's head right now, because ISU would have won very few games....

HellsBells Boys....Garrett is the "best player" on this team. Why dont you guys blame Nebraska for having a better basketball program than we do at Iowa State???

The real problem is what mcdermott left us with basically a very bare cupboard, & its not going to get any better this year boys....

I for one am looking forward to the end of this season and looking forward to next season!!!!

Go Clones Beat The Jayhawks....

If your new car takes you from California to New York but breaks down a mile from your destination you wouldn't have a beef?

You might have a beef, but it's your car. It's what you have, and there are no prospects of replacing that car until next year. The reason you took that car on that trip in the first place is because presumably it was the best vehicle you had to make the trip. You choices are to take a different car next time, or try a different route that might be a little shorter...

Why blame DG? Do you think other players had better chance at the end? I doubt it. We got outplayed most of the game. No reason to blame the loss on ONE play and ONE player.

Why cant you see the positive side of what they have done rather than what they COULDNT pull off?

This thread is unbelievable. Blaming DG is absurd.

The spacing on the court at the end was awful. DG was trying to make something happen. It didn't work out. Get over it, the kid plays incredibly hard all the time.

Is somebody asking for DG to be replaced? The point was made and I think the point was valid. Without DG we'd be WAY worse but that wasn't the OP's point. Did people not read the actual text in the post?

You're right he plays his butt off, maybe this staff shouldnt ask so much of him at the end of close games, I'm not saying he should get all the blame but something different needs to happen at the ends of these games. Even the biggest DG homer should be able to see that. We've tried the same strategy 3 times and its failed 3 times, are you guys okay with the way our 3 losses have ended?
