Also really excited to see Fousek. Does he ever wrestle in big tournaments out of state? Don’t see his name thrown around much but he’s great.

Fousek dropped a tough one in the NEIC championship match to Block from WSR. I wasn't there but a buddy was and said it was a great match. The difference was a td and some backs in the 3rd for Block for a 5-3 decision.

Fousek will have a great look at being a 4x state champ but finishes as a 2x conference champ thanks to WSR. Riggins got him as a fr and now Block. It's here nor there. They're sll great wrestlers and I'm excited to get CF to Ames.

Just curious what would be the expectation for the guys wrestling 141, 149 and 157 in this scenario be as far as nationals next year?
If swiderski is our 141 pounder it will mean coaches think he can be an AA. Redding top 12. 149, Johnson or Robinson, AA expectations. 157 Qualifier or higher if one of the 149 pounders becomes a true 157. If Carr stays at 157 then I think Rojas will be 165 and AA to high AA. There is no guarantees with injuries and mental preparation. At least we have a lot of young but high end options next season.

Pretty sure Swiderski/Rojas will be monsters out of the gate, but probably makes lineup sense to redshirt both. If we redshirt the entire freshman (and greyshirt) class then a speculative depth chart for the 2023-24 season could look something like this, with the assumption that all the guys with COVID years use them.

125
Terukina (Jr)Knopick (R-So)Fousek (R-Fr)
133
Attasauov (R-Jr)Noonan (Jr)Cabanban (R-Sr)
141
Swiderski (R-Fr)Redding (Jr)
149
Johnson (R-Fr)Robinson (R-So)
157
Euton (R-Fr)Krassier (Sr)
165
Carr (R-Sr)Judge (R-Sr)Schumacher (R-Sr)
174
Rojas (R-Fr)Broderson (R-Jr)
184
Devine (R-Sr)Helgeson (R-Fr)
197
Bastida (Jr)Fisher (Jr)
285
Schon (R-Fr)Greenlee (R-Fr)Duggan (R-Sr)

With Naaktgeboren at 174/184 already committed in the 2023 class what would our other top priorities be for that class? I'd say 133, 165, and 197?

We're set up to be a salty dual team for the forseeable future. Having a year with Swiderski/Carr/Rojas/Bastida all in the lineup would be NCAA's, but still not sure I see the point scorers needed to really push for top 4.

Who is more likely to redshirt- Rojas or Swiderski?

If I had to guess, I'd say Rojas. They're both hammers and I think both are going to do great things here, but I think Swiderski is more consistent right now, and I think in general it's easier for lightweight guys to compete as true freshman. More high school kids are ready to come in and compete right away than ever before, so there are always exceptions, but that's my opinion.

If Carr stays at 157 and Rojas wants to go 165, I think it could be his spot right away. If Carr goes up to 165 like most people think he will, I think Rojas redshirts. He'd probably do well at 174 even as a true freshman, but we have other guys there that can get the job done.

Pretty sure Marcus comes back.

That is a very salty lineup. Maybe the staff could find a transfer for 157, or Robinson bulks up this offseason to go 157.

Other teams will not enjoy dealing with the back half of duals .

Then the following year, just replace Coleman and Schuyler. I think Devine would/could be back

I have high expectations from Paniro. From what I’ve seen, I think he can crack the top 20 right away at 149 and start climbing.

Made my changes if we're going full send next year. May as well have Carr suck it up and go 157 for one more season and get Rojas in there at 165. Think the cuts for Swiderski, Carr, Rojas are doable albeit probably not fun. Think they could handle it for a year if it meant trophy contention.

I have heard that before. I kind of hope Schuyler comes back. Another year in the room and he will get better yet.
You seem to have good connections in there Buf. Is Schuyler that far ahead of Schon? I am just wondering if you would want to keep him off the mat another year.

I heard them say on the broadcast Schuyler weighed in a 235. Is that what Schon weighs any inside knowledge? Would think 240-250 is ideal but a lot of smaller hwts these days.
