I get around
Before I came to ISU I used a DecWriter at Wazzu that was hardwired to the campus mainframe, two buildings over. Reams and reams (and reams) of wide green/white tractor feed paper. I probably killed a thousand trees a month with all that paper.

I also worked in an accounting function in SF where the data entry operators were in a clean room, and the computer took up two more rooms and used tapes.

Then again, I'm still trying to figure out my smart phone that is apparently smarter than I am. I only gave up my clamshell last spring. ;)

Some of us old fogies do try!

Onward and upward!! DEC is one of my all time favorite companies. Green and white tractor paper and tapes, that sure brings back memories!

Missed the punch cards (barely) THANK GOD! PCs were few and far between. Spent many a night at the VAX labs in Physics or Science II.

Ahhhh... the VAX. Now that was big time technology. ISU just got it up and running as I was graduating.

Remember the Wang word processors...and the IBM Selectrix portable typewriters with the correction cartridges? Boy, didn't we think THOSE were the best thing since sliced bread!

I hate living with the guilt of the mean or stupid **** I did as a kid and now even as an adult because Im more aware of how myself and the world works even though I don't know how to make it work. Sounds stupid I know but just one of the more personal things Ive found about myself as I age.

I saw a kid at my HS reunion this summer. His mom was a substitute teacher. I (not just me but especially me) were just terrible to this lady. Even made her cry.

Looking back I can't believe how ****** I was sometimes. I asked the guy if his mom was still living and she was. I made him promise me he would tell her he saw me and how much I regretted being so bad back then. It felt better but still I wonder what was going on inside my head at the time. I was probably 12 or so. He went to a different school at the time so wasn't in our class then.

50 is on the horizon in a few years for me. I feel as good today as I did 25 years ago. My girls keep me young.

That said, I can't drop weight like I used to, hangovers are all weekend affairs, and it sucks that my hair grows where I don't want it and doesn't grow where I do want it to.

I'm 38...

Having to wear reading glasses if I am wearing contacts kind of snuck up on me.

I'm surprised by the amount of grey in my beard, but I really don't mind.

I wish the rest of the hair on the crown of my head would just hurry up and fall out already.

I almost never wear white socks anymore.

But the biggest thing I've noticed (and I think my wife will excuse me for admitting this) is the wide age range of women I find attractive. Up until I was about 30, I really only noticed women about 18 to their mid 20s. Now there are women I find genuinely attractive ranging from about 18 to 65.
