I don't think we utilized his skill set very well. We were trying to stick a square peg in a round hole instead of cutting the hole to fit the peg.
That and there is a big difference in the quality of big men playing in P5 vs. G5 vs Other D1. At Cleveland State Eni is a man among boys. Sure there are some good post players like Osun, but there just aren't that many.

Most of the players at that level that can compete at the P5 level are guards/wings.

He wasn’t allowed too. He was taken out of the game at the 17 minute mark in the first half, every game, no matter what. He could have been playing the best ball on the court and it wouldn’t have mattered, he would be taken out at the 17 minute mark. Always baffled me why T.J. did this, and always baffled me why when Brockington was struggling and the team desperately needed offense, he wasn’t out there playing. I mean his defense wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad, but his offensive skill was arguably the best on the team outside Brockington.
I can guarantee you that if he had played at Iowa State as aggressively as he showed in that video, he would have never left the floor.

Tristin just needed playing time to get more experience. I'm happy for him, just wish it could have come at ISU as I think we all saw the potential he had/has.
Man he could have been a steal if the light came on at ISU.

I'm sure most know this but Daniyal Robinson is the coach at Cleveland State. Cool to see him have some success too.

It was almost a week or so ago, Tre Jackson was in a zone and poured in more than 40 in a win at Wofford. It just goes to show you the caliber of play in the Big 12. Some guys are skilled enough to hang, others are not. Not saying they aren’t good players.

Fit is also really important. Both guys have benefitted from the drop in level, but also seem to be guys who are better suited to higher pace teams and probably less emphasis on the defensive end.

Regardless, glad to see them having success this year.

I watched the Western Carolina game last night. Tre is electric at that level, not even looking like the same player we saw in Ames. I had to remind myself this is not the Big 12. Somewhere in that same conference, former Hawkeye walk on Austin Ash is also lighting it up with his ugly set shot. Both averaging 15 ppg and at or above 40% from 3

Yep, like most have alluded to the level of basketball isn’t extremely competitive in these conferences. And certainly the defense isn’t as pesky as the Big 12.

Sorry to nitpick, but I disagree with use of the word competitive. Teams at all levels compete and want to win. There are great games and good basketball in NAIA. Obviously the talent level is different, but the desire isn't.

Not meant as a rant.

I couldn't agree more with this. Since I moved to Ohio a year ago, I have seen half a dozen Walsh University games in person. Walsh is a small private university in North Canton that plays in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, NCAA Division II. Every GMAC team I've watched has had a 6'6" to 6'9" front court and very active guards. Every team has been very well coached on both offense and defense,. Every game I've seen has been extremely competitive, with high intensity and maximum effort from both teams. GMAC teams would probably struggle against the MAC, but at their own level, they are fun to watch.

Tre Jackson and the Western Carolina Catamounts take on the #1 seed Furman Paladins in the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals this afternoon at 3pm on ESPNU in case anyone is bored and wants to cheer on a former Cyclone.

Would be awesome if they could pull off the upset and make it into the tournament

Western Carolinas upset bid comes up short in OT. It was Tre who actually had 2 attempts at the end for a game tying or game winning shot. Couldn't convert, unfortunately. His final line was pretty good--22 points on 4/9 from 3, 7/16 overall-- but I bet he wishes he could've got one of the last couple shots to go down

I was a bit heartbroken for him. He played well and I think that play at the end was set up for him but Furman seemed to anticipate they were looking for Tre to take the shot and defended it well.

Yeah Furman was all over him. Wasn't sure he was even going to get a shot off. Would've been awesome if he made it
