2025 field work

Went out for a drive with my 95 year old ex farmer great uncle. Definitely a few areas showing a bit of stress from this heat, areas with compaction or that had held water have some corn curling.

Our corn planted April 11th has just taken off this past 7-10 days, over my head now and at least based on the first few hundred feet(too hot to scout too deep) absolutely immaculate in terms of early disease problems. Not even to tassel so plenty of season left to go wrong but always nice when you don't start with issues.
Next time you 2 go for a ride , can I go along? I would love to hear his comments. I missed all those visits.

4.25” here last night. Has rained every week in June, 7.5” so far this month. Crop looks excellent. But it’s not in the bin.

Went to go look at plots by Charles City today and corn looks awful. Don’t know how much rain they’ve had but lots of N deficiency. Only knee high too. Same planting date just 30 minutes south at Allison was waist tall and dark green

My sweet corn tasseled today. Planted May 3rd. 3 weeks after tassel is the rule for corn. I know of some early planting early varieties that might be ready by the end of the week. Westrum sweet corn by Stratford probably has some ready.

what are you using for early hybrids? Bolt and kickoff?

Saw some corn starting to tassel today
I was out at the in-laws last weekend in Eastern IA- they had some 111 day corn starting to shoot tassels. Our stuff in NC Iowa is probably a week or 2 away… I haven’t gone out this week yet to pull the whirl on a couple to check
