Problem with NC rocking the pulled pork is that they put ******* cole slaw on it. Why would you DO that? And why wouldn't you announce it to poor, unsuspecting visitors?

I disagree. Cole slaw makes the pulled pork sandwich. And sloppy joe. That said, I hate NC bar-b-que sauce because of the vinegar taste it has.

Oh, see, and I'm the opposite. The vinegar and/or mustard sauce is the best kind out there. But cole slaw has no place on a sandwich. Or in Jello.

Skyline Chili is a gift from God. Only divine intervention could produce such culinary mastery.

Ya i've lived in Chicago on and off for about half my life and have never really eaten deep dish pizza. It's a tourist trap like Giordano's, pizzeria uno, Gino's east.

Interesting. We've been to Chicago several time in the last few years visiting native chicagoans and both times we ended up having deep dish pizza. This was unsolicited by us, it was their choice. Once we went out to eat and once delivery. The place was definitely local. Not exactly a hole in the wall, but small and definitely not touristy. The pizza was good. Don't remember the name of the place.

You're wrong. Here is a list of things that are from Ohio that is way better than Cincy Style Chili:

(In no particular order)

THE HAMBURGER. YES! THAT WAS INVENTED IN OHIO! AND IT HAS THE WORLD BURGER FESTIVAL EVERY YEAR

for the record icewine is a Canadaian thing, and yes i realize lots of northern climates do it, but Ohio can't really claim that.

Colorado one is hilarious. Our food here is terrible. It should have been Greek yogurt and granola.

I'll accept that. I just know that we have a ton of wineries and vineyards up here for it. Ohio is one of the leading producers in the U.S. though

Ya but it doens't quite get cold enough for the fruit to overripen like should happen with icewine. Germany/Canada have the best, the one of your picture is Iniskillin which is the producer everyone kind of knows. They have a Cab Franc icewine that they only make like 200 cases of a year that will knock your socks off.

Ok IceWine is still better than the best Cincy Chili though...

Central Iowa
Cincinnati chili is definitely an acquired taste. I'm from there, and I've always liked both Skyline and Gold Star, but it's always a part of a 5-way. My family is not from there and hate it. To each their own.

Maytag is no longer in Iowa as the appliance maker, but Maytag bleu cheese is still made in Newton.

Half my family lives in Cincinatti (Well Northern Kentucky but they all claim the Natty) and everytime i'm there they make me go to Gold STar because "you will like it this time" and everytime its just terrible.

Are there really any major Iowa brands (product not company) left that are still made and headquartered in Iowa besides Pella and Tones. And as far as I know Tones is owned by a parent company. Pioneer is now owned by DuPont and we all know the Maytag story.

Factoring in company brands not just products I would have to say that Principal, Casey's, and Kum and Go are probably Iowa's most prominent names now that are actually headquartered in Iowa.

I'm sure there is a company very obvious that I am missing.
