Are there really any major Iowa brands (product not company) left that are still made and headquartered in Iowa besides Pella and Tones. And as far as I know Tones is owned by a parent company. Pioneer is now owned by DuPont and we all know the Maytag story.

Factoring in company brands not just products I would have to say that Principal, Casey's, and Kum and Go are probably Iowa's most prominent names now that are actually headquartered in Iowa.

I'm sure there is a company very obvious that I am missing.

Winnebago was already mentioned. I don't think they have a parent company. ERTL would be another maybe?

I only know because I interviewed there, but Marshalltown Company. They make trowels for bricklayers.

While corporate headquarters are in Moline, Deere has quite a presence in IA. 3-4 major manufacturing facilities (Dubuque, Davenport, Waterloo, Ankeny). Not sure if that competes with the others...

I'm talking more about brand names that are common in all households. Brick trowels don't really qualify.

Winnebago is a good one. Almost everyone knows what a Winnebago is but that company has been in some serious trouble over the years.

ERTL is a good one for us in the midwest but I can guarantee you most people that have never been affiliated with ag have no clue what ERTL even means.

Wasn't aware of HON being headquartered in Muscatine.

And I am fully aware of Deere's presence in Iowa but like I said in my previous post they aren't deemed an Iowa company since their headquarters is in Moline.

Louies in New Haven, ct. Would disagree on the birthplace of the hamburger. And so would The Library of Congress.

Rockwell Collins is a Fortune 500 out of Cedar Rapids

But that brand map is horrid. How can you think of Illinois and Catepillar first - I mean, its the home of McDonalds, Sears, Walgreens, Kraft to name a few...

Ertl was sold in the 80's, and has been bought and sold several times since then (or their parent company was bought and sold, I guess). As far as I know, the 'factory' in Dyersville is just a warehouse. At one time, Racing Champions owned them, but near as I can tell, they're owned by Tomy, a Japanese company.

Wisconsin should be cheese curds and the company should be New Glarus Brewing. Everybody asks about that damn beer.

**** Louies! They stole the idea from the Menche's Bros.

:jimlad: I don't really care but it is to prove a point that Cincy Chili shouldn't be our food

Everyone in Washington loves salmon, and I like it too, but there is so much better seafood available out here - mussels, clams and oysters, many native shrimp species, dungeoness crab, bay and sea scallops, lingcod, halibut, rockfish, squid...
