At the tailgate tour Fred said, "Ejim will play the 3 on the wing now, and Niang will play the 4 his more natural position.

Interesting. Looks like we'll need a new lineup thread with this information. If what Fred is saying holds true, I'd say the lineup looks like this:

Monte/Bubu
Thomas
Ejim
Niang
Amardi

If it's this years percy it's going to be a long year.

There is no reason to think that Percy can't improve to the point he's a legit B12 starter. He's shown flashes that he can be solid or better. He'll never be all B12, but he can be a capable starter IMO.

Bigs can make some pretty decent progress as they get into their last couple of years

He also talked about Percy is putting a lot of hard work in this offseason

Glad to hear this. I thought he looked rather out-of-shape during last summer's Cap City League.

I think he just needs to find his groove. Hoiberg tends to let these guys play through their own stuff. Percy seemed like he wanted to contribute and gets off to a good start at times, such as in the game at Wells Fargo, but then stupid quick fouls take him out of the game. Finding his role will be key. He doesn't have to be a star in order to be a great asset on a team that could make a long run in the tournament.

I was very disappointed that Percy could not figure out some stuff that is so simple. For example, when the ball went inside to him, it went up pretty much every time. It didn't matter the circumstance, it didn't matter if 3 defenders collapsed on him, he shot it. If he was aware of WTF was going on, then it could have paid be dividends for both him and the team. Why didn't he kick it back out and re-estabish position deeper? When the ball goes back out, the defense relaxes and backs off, it is a perfect opportunity to get in better position. Or, when the ball goes in, the shooters would drift into open gaps on the perimeter, he never passed out to those guys. This is basic stuff that high school bigs learn. It was very frustrating to watch. Hopefully this year he masters those basics.

Not to mention poor defender and poor rebounder for his size. Never attacked on rebounds

I think Royce made Percy look a lot better than he probably was his freshman year. Hopefully he just had a sophomore slump and figures it out his junior year

That's cuz percy is a jump shooter! Why doesn't freddy h put him in at 2 guard already??? For real tho, percy needs to grow a mean james harden beard over the off season to scare people atleast a little

It's all about his ability to use his off-hand. Fix that, and we're golden. Then maybe he can use both hands to pass and rebound. Fingers crossed. I think he knows how important he is to this team now and will be putting in extra effort this summer. Percy is my sleeper for next season. I think he's going to surprise most of us.

Agree with the poster who mentioned Percy looking better because of Royce (I seem to recall him getting the best of Anthony Davis around the rim a few times).

Based on last year's play, that's really hard to believe.

I think he's fallen into the biggest wildcard slot on this team. He'll either have a nice/somewhat surprising year or fall off the map.

I think Percy will play a lot better this coming year. Our offense may change to match the talent next year. I think Percy was somewhat the odd man out due to the type of team we had last year. Percy offers low post scoring, but he seems to perform best when paired with another post and they are working the hi-low post game. With all the shooters we had last year, we played better with smaller perimeter oriented post players paired with three or four shooters.

The bolded part is correct.

Last year our offense was tailored to get as many shooters on the floor at one time. Percy didn't fit that.

Next year our offense is going to be tailored to utilize Ejim at the 3 and Niang at the 4, both of whom have mismatches over their defenders at those positions. I bet Percy will be better suited for that offense.

FWIW, I now think think will be the starting lineup at the beginning of the season:

PG: Morris
SG: Hogue
SF: Ejim
PF: Niang
C: Gibson

Thats awesome. Nothing better than having a smart athletic BBall player. A lot of people show what they think the starting lineups will be and I'm always surprised he isn't on some of them.

Just recent memory issues for lots of folks...SDW redshirted, so nobody really talked about him last season...it was all either current guys or the new recruits. SDW is kind of the 'middle child' on the team - but watch out - he's gonna shock a lot of people (in a good way).

The great thing is that there is so many possibilities for a starting lineup. That is a testament to how deep we are talented. Much better than Clint Varley and Andrew Skogland being the 8th or 9th guy. We can go 12 deep and still are pretty dang talented. Regardless of the starting line-up, we will have 3 or 4 really quality guys coming off the bench.

I have a hard time believing that both SDW and Thomas will be coming off the bench

Especially Thomas.....And ive seen 5 seconds of Amardi and id already rather have him in there than Percy. Ive never seen much from Percy (or his right hand) to make me think hes anything more than a 5th body on the floor. A 6'9" sofa.
