No actual tears here, but I know exactly what you are talking about. I just sold our car last week and it was tough to see it go. I hope I don't see it on the road in the future. All those good memories will come flooding back.

That was the other part of it. I didn't want to trade it locally for that reason. Ended up trading it at a dealership big enough to pass it off at auction. Mine has probably already been towed behind another car down I-35 toward Mexico.

I've gotten attached to most of mine. I spend so much time in them and get used to them like an old pair of jeans.

Never shed a tear, but the dropping off the old pet at the pound analogy someone used worked for me.

Emotional attachment comes quickly when you shed a lot of sweat and blood while working on the vehicle. And a lot of money modifying it to increase power and performance. Obviously I'm not talking about a daily driver, though.

I totaled my 1st car (Grand Am) and I just traded in my 2nd car ever a year ago. The trade was a 1991 Ford Explorer with 225k+ miles, good riddance. Big Red (red inside & out) was a tank that got 12 MPG, I couldnt get rid of it quick enough. I think I will have more emotion getting rid of my house, started my married life here and all of my daughters 1st's were here.

Thats a hell of a way to thank your truck and thank General Motors for the memories ..... by buying a "Honda" truck for Gods sake. An American icon, the pick-up truck and you buy a Japanese Full-Size pick-up! Detroit thanks you!! Sayonara!

Seems more appropriate that way.

Seem to be alot of people here that bought or at least considered one. A very high number in fact when comparing the the percentage of car threads where one is mentioned vs. the percentage of road going vehicles they represent. I'll bet I don't see one every three months.

Of you recent consumers, what did you trade away and for?

I made a Pontiac swap; got rid of a Grand Prix GTP and into a G8 GT.

12 mpg for a vehicle that small is pretty bad.

I still have my 69' pontiac catalina I bought in 92' for the last year of school, even with its big 400 ci engine and at roughly 4800 lbs, I could get close to 20 mpg on the highway. I might have to get another large power cruiser of that era since gas prices have dropped, those mid 60s to early 70s cars rock!!

That reminded me of my buddy Neil's fat Caddy.

I had a GTO I had a lot of trouble selling. I know 20 years from now I'll really think it was a mistake selling it. I wish I could get my first truck back.

Nice trade. I've read a lot about the G8 GT and think it's a heck of a deal. I actually thought it was going to be my first domestic(well kind of) in about 20 years but I was thrown off by one thing. I know it sounds small and stupid but why can't the make it so the doors shut better? When you slam the door it sounds like my 77 Monte Carlo. This is the first and last thing you do when you get in a car and it drives me nuts when they are not smooth.

For some reason I can look past the doors on the Corvette:smile:

The only car I've ever been sad about was the '67 Camaro I couldn't afford when I was in high school. Other than that, no attachments.

And one day, I'm still going to buy a '67 Camaro. But it's going to have to wait until I replace my motorcycle.

I traded my Chevy pickup in for a Ridgeline last March and absolutely love it. You won't be missing your Chevy pickup for long. I even went in intending to buy a Colorado, but the Ridgeline was better in many ways, priced better and Honda worked with me a whole lot more then any Chevy dealer wanted to. Also 22 mpg on the highway doesn' hurt either.

Ridgelines aren't my thing, neither are trucks in general for that matter. That said, I think next to a Colorado anything would seem great. I spent enough time in one to hate it. The inline 5 engine was so wheezy and had a very narrow powerband that you couldn't touch until you were at the top of each gear. Couple that with what I recall were very long gears. Not a good arrangement for a box on frame truck.

I normally don't get too upset about trading a vehicle but looking back there are a lot of vehicles that I've had that I wish I had back.

Nissan 350Z
74 Z-28 w/500hp 427
VW GTI
2000 Honda Civic Si (not powerful but fun to auto-x)
CBR600 F1
Bombardier DS 650

I've never had any kind of attachment to a vehicle really. In fact, I went a couple years without one of my own (I have a company provided vehicle).

I'm not alone!!

I'm not knocking anyone that's felt attached to their vehicle. That's admirable in a way. This thread helps me to see how boring and robotic I really can be. I am certainly not the most emotional sort, as seen by my responses in this thread.

I've always just looked at the car as a tool for what I need it to be, like a computer, hammer, or whatever else. When one of those is shot, in comes the new one, and life goes on.

I'm a little different. I know:wink:

I see your side too. Alot of people think that way about cars.

Cars are definitely my thing, but when I look at anything outdated that still works, I want to hang onto it. I still have a functional Super Nintendo that I haven't played in many years. I kept my last laptop even though I have no way to charge it and really have no use for it.

With cars it's definitely emotional too, but for the most part I just hate to pitch something that works.

Sentiment is also king in alot of those sorts of decisions. I'm still overwhelmingly attached to the ISU campus. Last fall after a game I walked around for hours between the buildings I used to have classes in. Most people get in and get out and never look back at ISU. That's not me.

That was the other thing that steered me away from the Colorado/Canyon was the I-5. When they first came out they were the next best thing. I have a good friend who is a certified GM mechanic and he has said that the last year has not been good for the reputation of that motor.

I didn't think too much of the Ridgeline either until I drove one and checked them out vs the competition. Then I really began to like it.

The only vehicle I've ever had an attachment to was my '69 mustang convertible I got while in High School. I had so many good memories with and because of that car, it would be really tough to get rid of. I've talked about selling it and picking up a new shelby Mustang with the proceeds, but I don't want to spend the money and I don't think I could really do it. Other than that, a car is a car to me. Strictly something I use to get from point A to point B. IT wouldn't bother me one bit to leave my truck at the side of the road now as long as I knew I had a new vehicle to take it's place. The only thing I'd miss is the 10 worry free years it's given me.
