Just wondering if it was Dunson's idea to drive to the hoop way too early? This gave Drake more than enough time to come down the floor and beat us. At the time, most Cyclone fans were going nuts, but I was saying to myself "Oh great, look at the clock."

We needed to tie the game and he had the lane to drive to the hoop. Good play on his part. I wouldnt be surprised if he is starting on Friday at Iowa.

No matter what our defense does at the end, it's our team's fault for not taking the last shot. You have to play your percentages there and not even give them a chance to take a possession.

Agreed on the second part. I have been saying that I prefer him over M'tosh since the exhibition games this season. He finally got a chance to prove himself.

just something someone mentioned in another thread, i dont know if it was goaltending or not but it looked like wes tipped the ball on the other side of the court at the end. If they would have called that goaltending, it woud have added .5 seconds to the clock or so and we could have won

Probably a good reason to listen to the call in show. But then again, maybe we'll never know what the coach called. The last minute of the game just wasn't kind to us. What would you call? Shoot the open three with 6 seconds left and hit the boards.

With the way we shoot the ball sometimes I had not problem with the layup. You gotta take your opportunities when they come and hope you can play defense. That part didn't turn out but it's always easier to criticise hindsight 20/20.

Mac said on that inbounds play he wanted to just get it in easy and back to Taylor, but if they were overplaying it, the ball should go to Dunson and take his guy 1 on 1. Who cares about the time at that point, you take the points and tie the game any way possible.

When you are down by two you take the points whenever you can get them period, it would be very stupid to hold it so that you only have one opportunity. Sure it would be nice if they didnt have an opportunity to score, but what if we hold it the possesion before when taylor didnt get it in, then we dont have the opportunity to foul and they miss the front end and we still have another shot at it.

I like taking the shot early. If we miss, then we still have time to rebound and put it back in. If they rebound, we have time to foul and maybe get another shot at it. Like someone else said, we just didn't defend well at the other end.

That's funny!

Do you really think Big 12 officials would've called goaltending AND added time to the clock?

No way in h-e-double hockey sticks.

Most of the time, they're lucky they don't strangle themselves with the whistle lanyard around their neck. :wink0st:

Dunson drove the lane on 2 occasions and scored, created a foul on at least one other time. I was thrilled about it and hope this will be something we'll see more often.

Every time we drove the lane, we scored or drew a foul.

Hmmmmmmm.

If it was tied at the point of Dunson's layup then sure it wouldn't have been the best idea to put it up then. However if you're down 2 you sure as heck want to make sure you get a decent look at it. I think somebody else mentioned that you want an opportunity to foul if you miss and they get the rebound also. You always want to hold for 1 in a tie, but if you're down you have to score how you can get them, and you know Drake was looking to stop the go-ahead 3 so the penetration was what was given to him. Good solid play by Dunson (thought there was also some contact as well, not that it would have necessarily mattered).

It should have been called goaltending. During the next timeout the announcers showed the play a few times and it was definitely a big miss by the ref's. Although it wasn't the reason we lost...

I agree. We had to score first & foremost, & then worry about the time left. I'm sure GMAC told his players that if there's an opening, take it. You might not get it again! Yes, in a perfect world we would've done it with no time left, but you take what the defense gives you (& what we can handle).

Good replies. I was just wondering what other people thought about that situation. In the end you're probably right - you should take what they give you.
