I think we'll know a little more once the season starts. If he is still attending most of our games, then we are probably still in the running. If he isn't, we are most likely out of it.

I don't think his attendance at the games will mean anything. I mean he gets free tickets to watch college basketball. Why wouldn't he go... even if he was/is looking to go to other programs.

Will Duke and the Big Boys hold a scholarship for HB if he holds out until the end, or will they give it to someone else for fear of waiting to long and missing out on another 5 star?

I for one think HB will be a Cyclone unless Sullivan talks him out of it. We have one advantage none of the other schools do...he lives HERE. How many players end up transferring because they are homesick? A LOT. How many of those other schools does he get to hang out with their players, hear and read about every day, watch on tv every week. It really comes down to does he want to play for the man, or does he want to be the man. I think he will want to be the man, the face of the program, the hometown hero. He can make it big here just like anywhere else. We put players in the lottery. We have produced NBA all-stars. We have won conference titles. We should have won a national title. Believe me, it won't be Iowa State as the reason if he goes elsewhere. See you in the cardinal and gold Harrison. In the words of Jamaal Tinsley, just like Phog Allen Fieldhouse, Cameron Indoor is "just another gym."

I knew this was happening, but it just solidifies how hard of a decision it will be for Barnes... Duke is a top business school, top basketball program, plays in a great conference, gets exposure on ESPN regularly, and plays in cool neutral sites during the season like MSG.... Must feel really good to have the pick of the litter. Every high school athelete's dream for sure

I surprised they were worried about Duke.... HB is exploding... and everyone, even us in the cheapseats knew most, if not all, powerhouses would offer him.

That's like being fearful of the great white shark heading toward you as your swimming off seal island.

He's ranked what now? Of course Duke is going to come calling. You can thank that ISU insider for speaking the obvious.

This is McDermott's moment to shine. Much like Orr getting Hoiberg to stay home or Floyd getting Fizer to come north from Lousiana, this is a defining moment. If McDermott lands Barnes he will get all the credit in the world. Losing him should carry some disappointment.

To Barnes I say, leave and be liked...stay and be loved. leave and be an all-american...stay and be a legend.

Does being a legend pay as well as being an All-American?

If Harrison is good enough (still a long way to go) to be a future lottery pick, then he'll be one whether he stays in Ames or goes to a big time powerhouse school. It's not like the NBA scouts won't automatically know who he is because he isn't on ESPN every night (ACC). If Beasley can be a top 2 pick out of KSU and Fizer a top 5 pick then HB can certainly land a big pay day after 4 glorious years (very wishful thinking) with the Cyclones.

You can be an All-American at ISU. You don't need a championship to make millions ( look at Beasley). We should be happy that everyone is offering him. I hope the time comes when every one of our recruits is being recruited by the big boys.

That is not universally true. Position and need always come into play. Duke doesn't just automatically offer Rivals or Scout's top 10 ranked prospects.

They pick and choose the best of the best to offer.

And the person I spoke with still felt like ISU had a shot against the Kansas' and UNC's of the world...not great, but a chance.

But Duke was the 'I don't know how he could pass that up' school that was mentioned.

As a parent...wow...that would be tough. Even if you worked at ISU, your kid gets an offer to play at Duke, and get that education?

If my son had an offer to play for Duke, and really wasn't dead set on staying home for college, I would probably do all that I could to show him the value of that Duke degree, and playing ball there.

But the chances of him staying a full four years at any school is highly unlikely, so how does a Duke which is slipping in b-ball lately offer more than ISU? If he goes elsewhere, I'd say KU or UNC where a national title is attainable that first year.

At Duke you are almost guaranteed to graduate in three years, play almost every game on National TV, and play for a legendary coach. Oh, and Duke slipping is still top 25. ISU slipping is 14 wins.

Lets get something straight. If HB is as good as advertised there is no way he sticks around 4 years at ANY school so this "education" you speak of is kind of a moot point. Plus, I'll take ISU's education up against tobacco U's any day.

All very valid, but, the same still holds true. If HB is as good as stated which I think most agree he is, then is one and done or at most two and done. Education, honestly takes a back seat.

Like I said before, the hardest to turn down, for a kid that could get in and excel in school, would be Duke and Stanford.

I disagree. The hardest to turn down is the own everyone you know and grew up with and played with who rooted for you your entire prep career hopes you will attend so they can continue to cheer you on to greatness and a lifetime of success.
