Some details regarding the Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max

Key Details:
* 10 episodes, each episode will be about an hour-long
* The show will span decades and will feature multiple Earth-based Green Lanterns, and it lists Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz
* Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Raynor will NOT be featured in the series (likely so they can appear later or maybe cast actors to appear in the DC films and also the TV series)
*Killowag & Sinestro will appear in the series
*This series is rumored to be the most expensive Greg Berlanti production (Arrowverse)
*Seth Grahame-Smith is the showrunner and will co-write the first episode with Marc Guggenheim. The two co-created the CW series Legends of Tomorrow.

John Cena is playing the character Peacemaker in the upcoming Suicide Squad and it was previously announced that there will be a Peacemaker spin-off series on HBO MAX. Some additional details about the show were announced today, most notable being that James Gunn will write all 8 episodes and will direct some of them as well.

WB are, again, discussing the release date for Wonder Woman 1984. It sounds like there are two options:

1. Keep the theatrical release date of Dec 25 and then launch the movie on HBO Max in January 2021.

2. Push the release date back to the Summer of 2021.

It sounds like if there is traction of a vaccine being widely available by this spring then WB may go with option 2.

I know they want to keep earnings as much in-house as possible, but it seems to me that in the current environment a short theatrical release followed by a shift to the smallest of the major streaming platforms would probably cost them a good bit of money.

If I'm a studio head I'd be more inclined to license to Amazon and Netflix as pay-per-view now at the same time as the theater release for $10. They could more quickly and easily turn a profit, and capitalize on broad buzz about the movie. If it goes to HBO streaming quickly, most people will not see it.

Disney sort of tried to monetize their Mulan live action release, but were charging over $20 for something that was going to be released for free in 6 weeks. Not sure how satisfied they were with it, but I don't think they've released anything else in the same manner since.

A new Greg Berlanti-CW series has been announced: Wonder Girl.

Premise for the series:
...Wonder Girl centers on Yara Flor, a Latina Dreamer who was born of an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God, learns that she is Wonder Girl. With her newfound power must fight the evil forces that would seek to destroy the world.

This is kind of interesting in that Yara Flor won't actually make a solo-comic book debut until this December. DC has a new comic book event called Future State which consists of a new Justice League made up of familiar characters, but different backstories, such as:
* Yara Flor becoming Wonder Woman
* Jon Kent, the son of Clark and Lois, becoming the next Man of Steel
* A new Batman that isn't Bruce Wayne (and apparently isn't a former Robin either)

It seems like a big risk for CW to invest in an unknown character, but at the same time it allows for a convenient cross-over between the TV series and comics to maximize market saturation.

New Justice League Snyder Cut trailer just released. Not necessarily much different from the last one other than it being in black and white.

I’ll be buying HBOMAX for at least a month.

I’ll watch this, Watchmen, S3 of Westworld and probably His Dark Materials. I’ll likely also rewatch Flight of the Concords as I always seemed to do that when I renewed my HBO account to watch Game of Thrones.

7 day trial then cancel 5 minutes after we watch the movie.

I already expressed above that I likely plan on seeing Wonder Woman 84 in theaters rather than on HBO Max. I'd be curious to know what everyone else plans to do, so please share.

Definitely will watch it on HBOMAX for me, however, if movie theater rentals are still a thing in Jan/Feb then I may be inclined to rent a space with our friends that are social distancing so we can enjoy it all together.

FINALLY!!!! Wonder Woman 84 will officially be the first thing on HBO Max to be released in 4K. This has so far been my biggest knock on the streaming service and also why I've been leaning towards watching in theaters. This might be the nudge to change my mind.

Wowsers. Did not see this coming and talk about groundbreaking. Part of me is excited about this as it will be easy, in 4K, and assures no more delays. However, part of me fears the future of movie theaters and its long-term impact to the overall film industry. I love going to the movie theater and don't want it to go away.

I agree, this has big ramifications and will likely cause Disney to review their 2021 release calendar.
I like to buy movies on digital but if this is the new normal for movies I could justify having a monthly ($14.99) HBOMAX subscription. I used to have to wait 4 months after a movie released in theaters and buy the film for $19.99. Not only may I no longer need to wait to watch a movie but I may not need to purchase another movie. The next time I want to have a DCEU marathon I can just shell out $15 for a month and watch them all. I guess now I just need to invest in a Dolby Atmos setup and I’ll be set.

Things are getting interesting after Warner's announcement as multiple theater chains have now come out condemning the move and saying they had not idea about it beforehand:

This is in stark contrast to their reaction to the Wonder Woman 84 announcement, which was lauded by the theaters.

This is quite a gut punch to my business (I've already put in many months of work on all these titles) but we knew more was still coming. Theaters in some countries would be doing fine now but are starved in that they depend on American releases. As an example Korean cinema was already on a roll and now they've had a period with radically less virus than us where their theaters can operate but only with Korean new releases, still theaters there can't hit their regular numbers lacking America's biggest cultural export.
