There is a forum that is dedicated to politics. The main board doens't need the issues that arise from it.

Yet this thread has gone for five hours and eight pages. My comment was made in jest which Angie understood. Mind your own beeswax.

Nine pages.

An "interoffice romance" between a superior and subordinate is a little different than between co-workers.

Just because no lawsuits have been filed does not mean that there was no sexual harassment.

Doesn't mean there was either...

It is my understanding that his wife (whom he married earlier this year) has been his "relationship partner" since the 80s.

Isn't that between them?

I wonder how differently this would be playing out in the mainstream press had Rush Limbaugh made this sort of announcement? Do you really believe there would have been empathy for him being extorted and acceptance for this kind of behavior like we are seeing with Letterman? Every women's rights organization in the country would have been on every network opining about how horrible his actions were.

Who cares? When there's a complaint from this already designated "victim", it'll be an issue. So far, it's consentual - which is allowed by American law. How about we let her (they) decide if they're victims, and not tell them they are?

Not to tread on Angie's warning... it's simply amazing the lengths one side will go to try and make this into something it's not, at least yet.

As long as public funds aren't used to finance it, I really don't care who sleeps with whom, regardless of who they are or their marital status - that's between them, their significant other, and their belief system. And, again, who knows when these allegations happened? What if they were in the mid-80's? There is no time frame given yet - that's the point.

Again, this thread won't be going political.

This is why so many companies have policies prohibiting this, and can result in termination.
This just in: a woman who would ordinarily tell a guy she's "not interested" when getting hit on at the bar might feel a different kind of "pressure" if he's her boss...

This just in, a guy who gets swooned over by an admirer might say yes too.

Update: Plenty of popular, famous, rich people have fans who would like to sleep with them. Shocker!

There is a difference between "fans" and subordinate employees.

BTW - why is David Letterman the "boss"?

I really don't know. Does he do the hiring/firing? Reviews? Stuff like that?

Or is he just the talent? The name?

Isn't saying he's the boss perhaps a bit like saying Brad Pitt is the "boss" in his last movie?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that there is no authority line in this at all.

But don't let that get in the way of a good witchhunt.

It's not just between them if it resulted in the women having sex with Letterman getting undeserved promotions, better job assignments, or other "fringe" benefits that other equally or better qualified employees didn't get.

The primary reason that companies have policies against superior/subordinate relationships in the office is because it encourages the things I mentioned above, which in turn, opens up said company to all kinds of lawsuits.

Good questions but I assume they are employees of World Wide Pants which I believe is his production company. I could be wrong.

Right, because I'm sure these female staffer/interns have "things" for other 62 year-old geezers...

And I'm sure Anna Nicole Smith wasn't influenced by that old-timers wealth or power .... it was true love!

Or did he sexually harrass her too?

BTW - my wife's family has EXACTLY that scenario. He's maybe 60+, she's maybe 30. Married a number of years.

I'll let you guess who's got the bigger bank account.... Well, given the impending divorce the bank accounts may be much more similar than they started out at.....

It was actually a serious question. In some capacity - he may very well be.

Regardless, I'd guess it wouldn't be a stretch that he exerts a certain amount of power within the production company, the show or CBS at large. And that he could use that power in a manner some are accusing him of.

Let's just wait for her to accuse him of it...

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if one or more did. Even as much as people are captivated by money, power, celebrity... just as many will do whatever to make a buck through a lawsuit. Whether the case has merit or not.

The guy got laid - I really could not care less. This country treats sex as such a taboo thing - *yawn*

If he did it while married, that's another issue. I have not read enough about it to know. If he was single - more power to him. Not the best thing to do with co-workers, but that's his gig, not mine.

Ok - I'm not answering these one by one any more.

Anybody have any proof of undeserved promotions? Threatened firings? Etc?

Thank you..... enjoy your weekend.

Specific facts of this particular case aren't required to discuss the general issues surrounding sex between superiors and subordinates in a work environment.

I thought this thread was about one specific case?
