Now it gets interesting.

2 hours ago, Dave Rice confirmed to a Las Vegas news station he has been offered the USF job.

1 minute ago, a Florida news station reported they never offered Rice the job.

Generally means he isn't leaving UNLV. USF saving face by saying they never offered.

never said it was

Say whaaaaaaaa?

say you propose to the love of your life and she says no. then goes and gets engaged to someone else. turns out her new man is broke and she leaves him. do you take her back?

Why the hell else would you use this example if you weren't implying it was the same thing?

if vaughn comes here (which i don't think he will based on how much we ****-talked about him) it's good for us. if he doesn't we are in the same position.

This is a quality statement, though.

Now that would be funny.

Niang and Hogue will be those guys for us, possibly Morris. It's not like RV would have been carrying the entire load.

That's not even mentioning McKay, Nader or possibly Lee.

I agree with what you're saying, just we weren't going to be a team that relied entirely on a freshman next year no matter what.

Right. I guess that was kind of my point. Vaughn would maybe take us a game farther in the tournament but he wouldn't be our Wiggins who we relied upon game after game. He'd be more like a (forgive me) Harrison Barnes or Glen Robinson. I'll be interested to see what we add. I'd like a big guard, essentially Kane. I mean, our interior should be much more solid especially if we add Lee. If you add something close to Kane's skillset, not even production, get some improvement from Naz, Matt and SDW (btw-I want to know what's keeping him off the court. Sorry I'm just not sure what MT is bringing) and you have a pretty damn good team.

Regardless of what happens with Rice.......this isn't a sparkling endorsement of his commitment to UNLV. And if I was a recruit...I might follow his example and see what else is out there. Remember what happened to Alford right after he signed a new contract at New Mexico?!

If he took us one game further, that is the Elite Eight and then maybe the addition of Lee takes us one game further. If they both want to come here, you would not say no. However, I don't think that RV is coming here. Lee on the other hand, I think is.

I think McKay was a much more important addition for next years ceiling than Vaughn would be. Possibly Lee as well.

its going to be funny when rice stays at UNLV and then gets fired at the end of the 14/15 season.

FWIW... It appears that Unlv AD has offered raise + extension to Rice. Sounds like he will probably take it. Adam Zagoria reporting that some of the recruits have said they will definitely open up recruitment if rice leaves.

How does a guy who has a not so hot season, that way underperformed get a raise + extension?

Here nor there
I'd rather win a big12 championship next year.
Well, I'd rather win a national title, but you are both saying the same thing. Get the player in here that helps us the most. It is certainly possible, if not likely, that would be a motivated, experienced, 5th year guy.

I am all for Vaughn if it is the best option, but it may not be, it just depends on what the alternative is. Fred puts a lot of importance on fit and playing the right way. Picking UNLV and in the manner he communicated with the staff could make a coach doubt Vaughn prioritizes what we expect our guys to. Tom Izzo is huge on this and it shows in how his guys play. He told Cliff Alexander to more or less to go **** himself after Alexander jerked around MSU.

People need to realize that as long as Fred is here, we will have as many open scholarships as we need. He knows how to manage a roster.
Well, there was the Armardi situation. But going forward, I doubt we get ourselves in that situation by tying up scholarships on Bluford's.
