OP is a Hawk fan. He doesn't need either. He can just look in the window of the trailer next door.

DTV and Dish are basically the same. No one has made a significant jump in receiver hardware since the HD switch. The biggest complaint I had about Dish was the lack of EPSNU HD this past winter.

Edit:

Once the Wireless Joey is released this would be huge. Speaking as someone who recently remodeled his basement and had to play fish the cables for hours on end to get my two DVR boxes running 4 tv's correct again. The wireless Joey is a god send.

Can't speak to switching because I've never had DTV, but I've been a Dish customer for about 5 years now and am extremely happy. Honestly my biggest complaint was not getting ESPNU in HD, and it sounds like that is finally happening. I'm also looking forward to the WatchESPN access. I love the Hopper-joey system and the prime time anytime is fantastic especially with the auto-hop.

As far as your picture concerns I have never noticed any differences between my picture and DTV. Maybe someone else can speak to that.

My experience exactly. Love Dish and plan on staying with them for a long time.

This. Can't believe the audacity of people ******** and moaning just to save a buck. Don't complain about crappy service when ***** about paying the retail price. Like it, pay the price. Dont like it, don't have the service.

Nothing bothers me more than nickel and dime crap like this (both from consumers and businesses). If you need to ***** the price down, you can't afford it.

Are you kidding me? "nickel and dime crap"? This may be the dumbest post I've read in the history of Cyclonefanatic.

The two year difference in total cost to me between DTV at my current price and Dish at the new subscriber rate is $1,555. Maybe you enjoy wiping your *** with $100 bills, but I don't.

I can afford to pay $120 per month for TV, but it seems dumb as **** to do that when I can have nearly the same thing for a 1/3rd of the cost.

To those of you who have replied, thank you very much...The idea of switching is much easier after reading some of the positive replies here. I greatly appreciate it.

I searched old threads, but would like some feedback specifically from people who have made the decision to go from DTV to Dish.

Called and gave DirecTV the annual "I'm leaving if you don't lower my bill" gig. This year they didn't really play ball....my bill has crept up to $120 a month with no premium channels...they offered $10 off a month for 24 months, which ****** me off more than anything...before I've gotten them to bring me down to $70-$80 a month for 12 months, then it raised to $100 for the next 12.

Anyway, them not playing ball has me considering moving to Dish for the first time ever...for those of you who have moved from DTV to Dish, how has your experience been? Like the idea of the built in Sling on the Hopper, but my main concern is picture quality....we have a Dish receiver at work and I noticed (especially watching sports) some macroblocking on the TV...I know it isn't the TV because its a $2,000 2014 model Samsung Smart TV that looks brilliant when hooked up to a Blu Ray player, so that leaves me to believe it is something with the Dish setup (who knows what, could be old coax struggling with the signal).

I've got a 60" plasma for my main TV and sit about 12' away from it, so any imperfections in the picture are going to very obvious.

I'm not happy paying $120 per month for TV when I could get the first 12 months of Dish for $40 a month with a very similar package, but just want to make sure I'm making a decision I won't regret for two years.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I cancelled Directv this year also because of this very reason. They did not want to lower my bill any, best deal they could give me is $10 off a month for a year if i signed a 2 year contract. Dropped them and Centurylink internet and went Mediacom. Now admittedly I do not have as many channels, but most of them I did not watch anyways. I am paying the same to Mediacom that I was to Directv, but now I have 30Mb internet included. I have had zero problems with them in the 4 months that I have had them so far.

Something to consider with Direct TV, if your contract is up. You can simply cancel. The next day you can call in and set up under the same name, etc and they will give you the new customer deals, NFL package, movie channels, etc. If that doesn't work, put it under your spouse's name( if you have one). I do it every 2 years, seriously, in the long run it averages out for the savings that you get to switch, etc.

Does this really work? If it does, I'm definitely going to try it.

Using introductory pricing is a good way to get suckers addicted to your service. Figure out if you can afford the regular pricing or dump it.

One thing you can try is to call them and actually cancel your service, but set your cancellation date a month or so out. I did this the last time I moved and they kept calling me with offers to try and get me back. I didn't take them up on any of the offers because I was actually starting over as a "new customer" at my new place, but you might get something good.

Luckily they haven't made a dollar off me. Have never had satellite TV in my life. Have had cable on/off past 5 years. Just perplexes me is all....

And yes. I hate the big telecoms just as much as everybody else. Waiting for Google to put these guys out of business

I get a kick out of everybody that honestly thinks Google will be any different once they are in the game.
