I like that you are rooting for both sides which makes you more invested in the characters. Fun stuff

Even though Johnny was a bully there was a sense of empathy for him in the originals. It was interesting even then to find yourself not hating him by the end of the first one.

This show significantly outperformed viewership for five new seasons of Netflix and Hulu's major shows despite Youtube Red having roughly 110x less subscribers than Netflix.

The question is how many people unsubscribe before the free trial is up. If they had a second decent series to slowly launch right now this week they'd be killing it. They basically have a year to come up with another series to try to keep people going the way AMC did when they strung Mad Men and Breaking Bad and Walking Dead together as consecutive hits. We're talking about Google here, it's not like they don't have the resources. Looking at their previous original content lineup I think this is the first title they even attempted to have appeal to people over 16.

With Youtube having finally outsmarted most ad blockers I'd say the ad free watching is worth a little $ but probably not $120 a year. It's kind of like Prime...the free shipping is worth about $5-10 a month to me and the streaming video is worth $5-10 to me...so it's a great deal combined when just one or the other would be lacking. Ad free youtube is worth $3-4 a month to me so they have to find a way to make the original content cover that gap.

So for $6 more a month you wont do it? Really? Tha’ts a McdOnalds lunch once a month. I mean thats 1 Beer at a fball game.

Exactly, I'd rather have one per month beer than a month of commercial free youtube. Definitely. I'm sure for some people it's worth it, I don't spend dozens of hours on youtube every month.

It's opportunity cost. There's a horror service I've never even tried called "Shudder" I'd rather subscribe to for less money than YouTube red because they have better movie and tv content. I'd rather subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, HBO, CBS All Access, Showtime, ESPN, Amazon Prime and probably other things I can't even think of...that's around $100 a month if you subscribe to all of them, which I never would and probably few ever do. I usually subscribe to one or two of those at a time and rotate depending on what is out.

YouTube Red has to get more and better content than just Cobra Kai or people aren't going to subscribe. I'm sure they know this. They have a hit, they need something else now to keep people beyond a one month free trial.

Went to a Dodgers game in May...that'd be 1/3 of a beer there. :)

I'm heading there next week, work is paying for tickets and dinner but I think game beers will be on me unfortunately. Typical beer prices at any restaurant or bar here are $8-10 on the low end though, if see something that's $7 my mind has been sadly twisted into thinking "oh good deal" when really it's still a gigantic ripoff.

All done but the last episode (which so far was the best episode except maybe the first 2). Any news of when the second season is coming out?

Late to the party here, but I've finally started watching Cobra Kai (halfway done) and I'm really digging it. Sure, it is a little cheesey, but not as bad as I thought it would be after watching the originally launched trailers. Regardless, I'm amazed how entertaining and breezy this thing is to watch. I knocked out all 5 episodes last night and felt like I watched one episode of any other streaming show out there. Granted, it helps that the episodes are only 25 minutes long. Yes, this series is super nostalgic and plays on that hardcore, but like Stranger Things, it has more to it than just nostalgia. Can't wait to finish the season up soon.

On a side note, I'm really loving Cobra Kai, but $11.99 for Youtube premium to get this???? Good thing I'm just rocking the free trial and then canceling, otherwise that to me is kind of a ridiculously steep ticket price for what this service offers. Youtube, you aren't Netflix so don't price yourself that way.

Late to the party here...I was hoping it would be more family friendly, but the language is too much. I can tell my eight year old to not use the b-word or the s-word in school. However, I’m not going to explain eye-banging or hand j*bs to him.

All that said, I’ll definitely watch it all.

I totally get where you are coming from here. While I can handle that stuff, how NOT PG this series was did kind of surprise me. My kids aren't old enough to even enjoy this series, but if they were, I too would struggle letting them watch it due to some of the crude things that needlessly get thrown out there. Nearly all those things could have been eliminated to some extent without affecting the quality of this series. I even watched all three originals before jumping into this series and while I was somewhat surprised how many more "S" and "B" words were thrown out there than I remember (I think I mostly watched the TV edit as a kid), it still didn't cross many of the lines this TV series has.

Non-spoilery Review

So, I finished Cobra Kai and man, that was pretty fun. Again, the cheese factor bordered on getting out of control at times, but was mostly was tamed back enough to not fully pull you out of things. Overall, I loved the series and found episodes 6 and 7 some of the best, which is when Johnny was getting Cobra Kai rolling. Truthfully, at the end, I found the tournament a bit underwhelming, as I thought they struggled to match the intensity that was found with the tournaments in the movies. Maybe that was because they were filmed more like TV than the movies and because they were working with a smaller budget, I don't know. Still, the tournament held up good enough.

As for my favorite part of the series, I'd say it was easily probably the character of Johnny. Not only did I think his story-arc was the most intriguing of everyone, but I found him fricking hilarious. There was probably 5 or 6 times he said stuff that I busted out in uncontrollable laughter for a couple minutes. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Particularly, episodes 6 and 7 had some of the funniest moments, but the last episode easily had the funniest Johnny moment of the entire series. For those of you who watched, you know exactly which one I'm talking about.

Anyway, I can't finish up without stating something really positive about the writers. They had a really tough task of rebooting this thing by writing a good story that was new and fresh, but still catered to all the nostalgic fanboys. Overall, I thought they accomplished that task. Count me in for season 2.

If you want some laughs, here is an awesome reddit thread laying out some of the best one-liners. I find it interesting that nobody even mentioned my all-time favorite line from the last episode: "Kick that pansy b' in the face". Again, I started laughing uncontrollably after that one.
