GC said that he would take weeks to fill his staff. He also said he had a couple of coaches from Texas in mind as well. He hadn't approached anyone yet about becoming an assistant which isn't surprising since he interviewed on Saturday and accepted the job on Sunday.

but whoever he hires, they will be men he knows VERY well and he fully trusts to implement a strategy he feels can be successful for the football program. I fully trust GC to make sound decisions on who to hire to fill out his staff. That said, I'm excited to find out who they're gonna be!!

as long as he doesn't tick off Mack Brown. It sounds like they are VERY close and Brown has ALOT of respect for ISU.

He is talking with the current coaches on Thursday. I have only heard that 2 coaches are keepers: the strength coach, which was brought up on here two weeks ago, and Ash.

This was the downfall of Mac for hiring the wrong assistants so I would think Chizik will take his time. Cotton, Alford, and Ash all had a hand in the mess Chizik takes over. Cotton with his terrible play calling and Alford and Ash as the main recruiters just did not get the job done. With $1.5 mil to spend on assistants and a guy at the helm that is very well connected I think Gene will bring the right guys in to help him succeed. In football you are only as good as your assistants are as they do a lot of the recruiting and micromanagement of the FB program.

Please not Ash! I would like to see the house cleaned of everyone but the strength coach and just start with a clean slate.

In respect to keeping current guys, I'd love it if he kept Ash. Not only is Ash a great coach, he's done a lot of recruiting for ISU as well. I think he would be the perfect "hold-over", if Ash even wants to hang around.

About Chizik hiring some Texas assistants, I heard on KXNO that a certain person informed them part of his "deal" with Texas was he couldn't hire any of their coaches. KXNO then speculated from this information, that they hoped being that was part of the deal, hopefully the other side was he no longer has a commitment to Texas - meaning he starts at ISU now and will not need to be with Texas for the bowl game.

The first part of this seemed to be proved wrong, as when asked about Texas assistants, Chizik said there are some guys down there he's interested in.

I've heard nothing so far about the speculation of Chizik no longer having a commitment with Texas.

ya, i ain't worried to much about him making the right decisions with the connections he has at Texas. As long as Cotton isn't back I will be happy. I don't know how good of contact he kept with Auburn or Clemson, but maybe he has some friends from there that might want to move up in the ranks and come to ISU.

if i were lookig at hires for coaching assistants i would grab major applewhite qb coach at rice and i would take a very good look at todd dodge high school coach at southlake carroll.dodge played qb for the longhorns in the early 80's and runs the spread offense in his high school and probably has a better grasp of the spread offense than most college coaches-probably better than mike leach at texas tech. his high school teams have been very succesful and are the mythical no 1 high school
team in the country. i tried my damndest to get mac to recruit that high school, but he never followed up on any of their athletes. we lost out on
the chandler kid that went to iowa. i stood on my head trying to get knock and mac on chase daniel that went to missouri. look what daniel has done.
i finally got chris ash to get after a good little running back at southlake carroll. he got on to nate newton's son who is a junior. the newton boy is about 6-0,runs a 4.4 40 and one of the best blockers for a back that i have sepn at the high school level. dodge has a son that olays quarterback andehe is a good one. has played in jr high,jr varsity, and now on the senior team and has never lost a game.he can read defenses as good or better than most college qb's. his only knock is that he is only 5-11,weighs about 185 and he has a good set of wheels as he is a 4.4 40 man. he is going to make some major college happy in a couple of years as he is a junior like nate newton's kid

I would be ok with applewhite as a QB coach, and would think it would be a step up from Rice for him, but I wouldn't offer him a high position than that.

What position would you be wanting for Todd Dodge? High school coach to BCS Coordinator is an awfully big step. Perhaps Wide Recievers coach?

Arkansas promoted a high school coach to O-Coordinator just last year. Seems to be working alright.

That seems like a huge jump from highschool to a BCS conference Football team. But, Football is football. If you know your stuff and don't buckle under pressure your good with me. :sweet:

I don't have any links at the moment, but I know I've read at least two sources that have said he will not be coaching in the bowl game.

I thought I read that in SI article, that he wouldn't coach in the bowl game. Maybe I just thought I read it, which is entirely possible.
