I heard the ownership of the Infiniti dealership lost their 'franchise' (or whatever it's called) from Infiniti to sell their cars in DSM. They said the service shop would remain open but no cars will be sold until new ownership is located. Anyone else hear this?

Wes Jordan, Jordan Infiniti? He is a great guy. It is funny you mention this, one of their car lots on Merle Hay Road is pretty much empty and the sign is down as well. I think you are on to something for sure

I always liked buying cars from Jordan Motors. Now that it's Lithia I'm not so excited. The last time I went in to get my VW serviced I asked the lady at the counter how it was going now that they changed owners. She whispered "we hate it".

Looks like they are not even listing the Infiniti dealership. I knew that also owned Honda of Ames but I didn't realize they took over BMW and Mercedes in Des Moines. Looks like besides Lexus and Cadillac, they have control over the luxury market.

Iowa

Acura of Johnston
Audi Des Moines
BMW of Des Moines
Buick GMC Cadillac of Cedar Rapids
Honda of Ames
Kia of Cedar Rapids
Mercedes-Benz of Des Moines
Lithia Nissan of Ames
Assured Used Car and Truck
Saturn of Cedar Rapids
Lithia Volkswagen of Des Moines

I've heard that as of 5 yesterday they didn't have to worry about those owners any more

What's the story?

My friend ordered a new car. They went to pick it up yesterday morning and there were about three cars on the lot. She asked what was going on and they said Lithia (sp?) was being pushed out by Infiniti. The service shop would remain open to service cars, but no sales until a new owner could be found.

Just for Infiniti?

Infiniti wanted Lithia to build an entirely new building for the franchise. Lithia basically told Infiniti they could have the franchise back. Replacing a very adequate building did not make financial sense. There is no way enough Infinitis can be sold in the Des Moines area to pay for a building meeting Infiniti specifications. Lithia now houses both the VW and Audi dealerships in one cramped building. Common sense says one of these two will be moved to the soon to be vacant Infiniti building. Infiniti does NOT own the current building nor the land under it.

Unbelievable , I get home today and the salesmen that told me that I had wasted his time test driving a car left me a message, saying the car I test drove had sold, but that he had car a year newer. He said that we had a misunderstanding, actually I think somebody from Toyota turned him, and he was trying to fess up, and make a sale. I have not called him back yet, maybe tommorow after I cool down a litttle. I will never set foot at Charles Gabus again.

There are many bad salespeople in the auto industry. Why? Because people still buy from them. Before giving up on a store, I'd try to hook up with another salesperson. If you get two bad ones, then I'd bail. However, if you wanted to be vindictive and get even, you could call a manager and ask to be assigned to another salesperson. I assure you they'll ask why. When they get tired of those calls, the sales person will get booted. Even if you get a different sales person, word will get back as they all have CRM software to track customer and salesperson activity. Unfortunately, you could visit the best dealerships in town and still ocasionally run across a bad apple. It's just that the bad stores are full of them.

As a sales person I often get frustrated with customers. However, in 12 years I've NEVER told anyone they were wasting my time unless they were making unreasonable offers on a car they picked out. As for him getting turned in, you're probably right. I'm sure it was a call he did not want to make.

My advice for picking a good salesperson is to do it the same way you would for a lawyer or an accountant - ask your friends who they use. If you're friend of a good customer of theirs, you'll likely get top treatment.

Neither does Lithia. I heard a rumor the other day that they were considering pulling out of iowa all together. I doubt there's any truth to it. You hear anything?

I can see Infiniti's point. The building is tucked off the road, hidden by VW and used cars. Not exactly a luxury image. I can't believe they couldn't have worked anything out with the vacant Land Rover building. Not that they were selling very many cars under the old regime, and probably less under the new one, but they ought to be good for 25/mo. in Des Moines.

Speaking of Vegas. Does anyone remember the show King of Cars? I thought it was pretty entertaining. I wonder why it's no longer on the air?

Maybe it was costing them business? Or maybe they were being over ran by tourists.

The actural weekly shows they run on local TV are on their website. They are a riot. If I remember correctly, the site is tobindodge.com.

We ended up buying from Toyota of Des Moines. The customer service there was excellent. By the way, we had been looking for quite awhile, and that was the worst experience we had. I work in customer service/inside sales, and if I treated a customer like that I would probably be written up. Besides I believe in going the extra mile for my customers.

May I ask who helped you at Toyota?

Mike Jansen, he has been there not quite a year. Low pressure, and very understanding.
