Agree! Don't let the door his you on the arse on the way out OUT!Considering the Top 6 Conference Champions get auto bids, it’s probably pretty safe to say the Big12 Champion makes it every year.

Imagine Jerry World paying a premium to get one Big 12 team's home game in the first round of the playoff, and then having it be 7 seed Iowa State "hosting" 11 seed Texas A&M in Dallas
Yep. After we gutted the AAC and the PAC does the same to the MW I think it'll be near impossible to be lower than 2 champs. Sun belt will be legit but the MAC and CUSA always suck and won't be close. Plus we'll likely beat the Pac 12 and compete with the ACCConsidering the Top 6 Conference Champions get auto bids, it’s probably pretty safe to say the Big12 Champion makes it every year.
How is this a worry? You legitimately think they are going to get every single at large bid? There is no way. 3 is probably the max a conference could get. Plus this gives the Big12 a seat at the table. In the current configuration the Big12 is on the outside looking in.
The National Championship was crowned before Bowl Games until 1968. The NCAA didn’t count bowl stats towards personal or team totals until 2002.IDK, they matter as much as the people involved make them. In the BCS era it was so hard to get into the title game the other stuff actually felt somewhat important because you needed to pick up wins to get momentum in recruiting and the likes to get to the top 2. Once players started deciding they didn't want to play in them and coaches decided to go to their new jobs instead they became completely irrelevant to anything happening at all. The media also quit caring as well, only promoting the playoff and sometimes the NY6.
Once we have coaches and players deciding being a part of them didn't matter then the system died.
Say the Pac adds SDSU and SMU and nothing else happens. It would make sense for Boise State and Memphis to be in the same conference. They could basically guarantee “win conference = playoff” if the top G5s banded together in that way and locked themselves into that #6 conference slot. Throw in other top G5s like Navy or Appalachian State.Yep. After we gutted the AAC and the PAC does the same to the MW I think it'll be near impossible to be lower than 2 champs. Why does this make college football great?
And if near perfection matters, not every single game matters. In fact, very few games matter after week 5.
Thats an interesting consequence i hadn't thought of. It would be pretty damn wild if the G5 is the ones who make a super leagueSay the Pac adds SDSU and SMU and nothing else happens. We may see a big G5 realignment wave in response to this system
Seems to me you’re better off having a bigger conference in this setup. As the SEC has been doing for years, if you don’t play each other in conference play, both the conference champ and the loser of that game can qualify. I would assume the Big 10 and SEC are going to have that automatically now…plus likely get one more. Getting to 16 or even 20 seems ideal now to have the Big 12 hopefully locked in for at least 2 as well.Interesting point, I have no idea what the best option is. Seems like the big12's new goal would to have the 2nd (or maybe the 2nd and 3rd) best team in the top 12. I'm not sure what number of teams best accomplishes this.
I approve this tu trollingDouble digit sources are telling me Texas is lobbying to expand to 68 teams so they have a shot at the play-in game in Dayton.
There’s a lot more of a chance now. Win the Big 12 and you get in. There is a clearly defined path for ISU for the first time ever.I love Iowa State but I have a hard time believing that a major selling point of coming here is the opportunity to play in the Playoffs. In all seriousness. If Campbell is pitching playoffs to recruits and they're nodding then he is performing some crazy magic.
More chance for ISU for sure, but they've had a clearly defined path before- it was just harder to go down it than it would be with the new playoff. And even more so than with G5 teams, there is the opportunity to play in a close game and even win one. There will still be plenty of teams that won't get in the playoff so each game for them is still important for reaching a bowl game. There are some who will lose interest if their team can't make it to the playoff, but the way a lot of people follow college football, there could still be a lot of interest if a team still has a chance to make it to a bowl game. There’s a lot more of a chance now. And it's not just access to the playoff. It's the opportunity to pull off an upset even if that is unlikely. But they need to commit to not continuing to expand so that the regular season keeps enough significance so that people don't lose too much interest in those games.Playoff access is critical piece to keeping guys like Campbell and recruits I think.
Yeah, Cincinnati and UCF emerged from not being super strong G5 programs. On a limited basis, it makes sense to give schools like Colorado State a path to improve their program over the years and eventually be at the level of Cincinnati and UCF.Giving G5 an auto bid almost seems less important now. It’s always made sense, but now all the Top G5 schools will be in P5 conferences, especially if the PAC adds a couple.
But I guess similar to the Big12, a new power house will(likely) emerge.
I hear what you are saying and I mostly agree with what you said. I know there can be flaws in what I am saying and I'd like to hear what they might be.There’s a lot more of a chance now. Win the Big 12 and you get in. There is a clearly defined path for ISU for the first time ever.
