After taking into account safety, I’d consider ease of cleaning before cup holders.

My toddler enjoys putting cheerios down the hole for the button to loosen his belts. I hate it. We don't have cup holders. I thought I'd miss them but not yet. He just yeets stuff everywhere anyway.

Reading through this thread while thinking my youngest really doesn’t even need his little booster seat anymore is just a wonderful feeling.

I'm not very handy, but our Boulevard was really easy.

Our original rear-facing seat was not. A neighbor of mine, really smart ME guy that I had as a student years before, tried to help me. It went badly for both of us at the time, but I suspect that he and his girlfriend (now wife) waited a little longer, so maybe it worked out.
Wife's Grand Cherokee I could use the LATCH in the middle. No problem.

My truck? Wife insisted on middle placement so I couldn't use the LATCH. Using the middle seat belt was a special circle of hell to get set up.

I just shuffled one of our two graco dlx’s two the third row of our van in order to install the base for the graco click connect infant carrier. Graco has been good for us. My wife and I love to joke about the car seat/stroller shame we feel seeing all the city selects rolling around.

I'm late to the party. I'll link the model we have below. My wife was in a wreck when our oldest was still in the rear facing seat so we got to upgrade on the other drivers dime.

The biggest thing about this model that I love is that it has a 4:1 winch built into it. So no more cranking on the belts to get it tight. I can cinch that thing down with one finger if I need to. I love that feature. Makes it very easy to transfer, if I have to. One thing that is good or bad, depending on how you look at it is that thing is HEAVY because it's made with a steel frame.

I don’t even have kids but have seen how messy car seats can get and how hard they are to clean.

Do bigger car seats all have expiration dates as well?

Yeah, the idea is that the plastic slowly wears down over time. I think that there are different ranges for different types of plastic (maybe by brand). It's frustrating and expensive, but it does make sense.

That cinch feature is absolutely amazing to be able to easily install/remove the seat. It should be mandatory for every seat.

I think the idea is that they want to sell more seats.

I can't find it but I know I read an article where they did a study and the whole plastic breaking down thing was BS.

I would be interested to see this. This could be a case where a whole industry gets based around antiquated research and there’s too much momentum to get it changed.

The UV exposure thing is true also for hard hats. They “expire” every 5ish years and are supposed to be replaced.

I feel sorry for all these trapped kidlets. Get a sedan cover the footwells in the back with a plywood sheet the same height as the seat toys and books can go underneath throw a couple of blankets and pillow on top, You get play pen and resting area all in one :p. It was awesome when I was a little kid!

To be fair that might have been a while back. LOL.

Thank you for all of the comments. With how pricy some seats can get. I'm surprised they aren't advertising financing for them.. (that was a joke)
if you need to get a new car for the car seat just skip the seat portion and go old school..

yeah for motorcycle helmets they say 5-6 years is the lifespan for them anymore due to the breakdown of the foam and glue internally over time. my helmet looks perfectly fine externally but is now at that time frame that I will probably pick up a new one this spring when the bike is in for tires.

This thread is timely for us. We're about ready to need to buy something to step up from our Chicco key fit 30.
