Earl Effing Bruce? Seriously? He finished 36-32 and never faced Texas, a good Baylor, a good OSU, or TCU for starters.

He never won more than 8 games in a 12 game schedule. Danny Mac went 9 wins and he wasn't good enough either.

And the OSU fired him once they figured out he wasn't good enough.

ISU is all about not being good enough.

So, CPR is good enough for you? If he stood on his mother's shoulders he could not kiss Coach Bruce's rear end.

I'm going to assume you weren't around when Earl was coaching or you'd know the Big 8 was the undisputed king of college football during the 70's. Nebraska and Oklahoma had defenses to go with their offenses, probably why they were winning national championships unlike Baylor and the current Big 12 powers. K-State was the only weak team in the Big 8 during that era. And Texas and even Oklahoma are no longer national powers, not even close. Based on recent bowl performances, time to admit the Big 12 is not that good and only a shadow of what the Big 8 was during Earl's era. No longer buying the schedule excuse of having to play the Texas schools every year, and a lot of teams play 10 FBS opponents in a season. Actually Earl had the best Big 10 record in the conference during his tenure there, but the spoiled OSU fans couldn't handle losing to Michigan more than half the time so he got canned.

You got that right. Bruce's teams would play with today's Cyclones and send them to bed without their supper.

If we were winning 8 games right now, or even 7, these threads would not exist.

Earle also had Nebraska (remember this is when they were NEBRASKA) crying about our physical play.

I could give a **** about not playing Texas.

Bruce won 8 games with an 11-game regular season schedule.

Exciting teams most of the time.

His 1976 8-3 team had one of the most prolific offenses in the country. With minimum bowls ISU was shut out of the bowl season, especially when the Bluebonnet Bowl took an 8-3 Nebraska team instead (who ISU beat earlier)

Iowa's 8-3 Rose Bowl team of the 1981 season wasn't any better than that ISU 1976 team..that stayed home.

In 1976, ISU was sixth in the nation in scoring offense at 35.4 ppg. Granted, teams were scoring quite a bit less then, but still quite an accomplishment. Actually, it would be great for ISU to average that now...

Michigan's defense was only giving up a little more than 2 points a game...wow....

Haven't read. Just don't like threads like this when they are started by someone with UNI in their username.
