Reading the comments, it seems BYU fans and the game day atmosphere are very family friendly. If any BYU fans are still here, what is the game day like during the Holy War? Are BYU fans this friendly towards Utah fans? Would you bring your kids to the Holy War game?
It’s been several years since I attended a holy war game (it became sporadic when Utah went P5 and BYU didn’t).

I would bring my kids, but there is a marked animosity. Partially because the fans for both teams are more scattered around the stadium.

The last one I was at, there were two guys who would purposely stretch out a U flag to block the view of people behind them.

I’ve heard words exchanged walking to and from the stadium.

If a fan base has 2% idiots, the animosity doubles that and many can’t resist egging the other idiots on.

There is always one. No matter where you go.
Just like you will always see packer jerseys at US Bank stadium at every vikings home game. I never understand why they do that. Superiority complex issue?

Any details on the amount of people being sober and making good decisions at the game?
I would imagine the amount of sobriety in the stadium helps with incidents and being nice part?

I know after 7 Jack and Cokes, the nicest person becomes a prick....
I'd question any person who mixes JD with coke!

We saw one at a night game at Notre Dame versus USC. The row behind us was laughing, pointing, and referring to the guy as effing weird.

A friend of one of my brothers was a massive Hawk fan but liked to try and go to a bunch of games in different stadiums. He asked so we got him a ticket to Michigan at ND and of course he showed up in Hawk gear, then missed the first quarter sitting in the Joyce Center watching the Hawks play some awful non con opponent on TV

Biggest and loudest student section ive ever seen, maybe I already said that, but its worth repeating. At least 3x the numbers of the ISU section. Its cool that they devote that many seats to students, and that they all get filled up.

It’s bigger but it’s not 3x bigger. It was packed though and we don’t do that for most games.

BYU’s single-level seating and no seats in the corner make the place look and feel bigger than 63k even though in reality it’s just barely bigger than JTS.

Depends on whether the game is being played in Provo or in SLC. In Provo, the atmosphere is a little different. It's tense but nothing hostile or volatile or anything like that. In SLC, it's a whole different matter. They are hateful, hostile, toxic and sometimes vile. They openly harass us and mock our religion. I would never attend a Holy War game in Rice Eccles ever again.
The trip was 26 hours. We boarded at Osceola Thursday night at 8 and arrived in Provo Friday night at 11. We had a couple delays on the way out. Two medical emergencies which slowed us down. The way back we boarded at 4:30 am in Provo and arrived in Osceola around 10 am Monday. (There was a large derailment West of Denver which forced Amtrak to bus everyone to Denver where we boarded and finished the trip.)

Our tickets were around $60 each way for coach seating. We booked early in mid June which saved some money. We also took advantage of a 20% discount which came in a Facebook ad. You will get a lot of offers on Facebook once you start looking at Amtrak.

It was my first experience on Amtrak and there were travel delays but I am definitely doing it again. I don't fly, which would be faster so I usually drive everywhere. It would have been an 18-20 drive and probably a hotel stay each way. With Amtrak I just relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely ride through the Rockies.
You found an Amtrack train ticket, roundtrip from Iowa to Utah and back for only $60 each way????

Yes, we booked early and used an Amtrak 20% off Facebook ad coupon.

I should mention that if at all possible you should travel with someone. Amtrak seats are in pairs. I had both to myself on the way down. The way back I was forced to share with a young 25 year old woman from France. But because of the derailment when we re-boarded in Denver I ended up with a homeless guy my age. So, I spent the night in the observation car.

It’s ok. There was one idiot BYU fan a couple rows up who booed when the ISU team came out onto the field.

We gave him the stink eye (no middle fingers from us … Mormons rely on more passive-aggressive looks and gestures).

My wife said “That’s pretty dumb to boo the other team for showing up to play the game that bought a ticket for.”
There are people who go to games in JTS who want the AD to make sure that the visiting team doesn't come out at the same time as our team so they have an uninhibited opportunity to boo the visitors. I think it is stupid and classless. I'll only boo after a player, coach or ref has done something truly worthy of disdain.

Sounds like you won until Denver.

Earlier posts indicate I am drinking Jack incorrectly. Well, that explains the weird carnival women, the dudes thinking they are the way....

I've been to at least 10 ISU road games and saw an Iowa fan at everyone single one.
There was a weird A&M fan at the Kansas game a couple weeks ago with a super expensive Aggie jersey on.

I might have to make the trip next time we're out there just for a cougar tail. Those look tasty.

Are the majority of Utah fans not LDS? I guess I just assumed since Utah as a state is heavily mormon that there was a large number of mormons that were Utah fans.
