I would say that Jamarcus Russell has the bigger bust. It looks like he is even wearing a bra under there to try to contain those sweater puppets.

Tony Mandarich, As the 1989 draft approached, Mandarich was the highest-rated player on the board. Higher than Troy Aikman. Higher than Barry Sanders. Higher than Deion Sanders and Derrick Thomas. It was on. He had serious clout. Mandarich could call his own shot. Everyone had bought in.
The guy didn't drink a soda until college. His upbringing almost guaranteed he'd be a drug addict once he had some money and fame.

Looking at the stats:

Ryan Leaf
25 career games 3666 passing yards 14 TDs 36 INTs 24 Fumbles

JaMarcus Russell
31 career games 4083 passing yards 18 TDs 23 INTs 25 Fumbles

Both pretty awful, but gotta give the nod to Leaf for overall ineptitude.

Edit- The fumbles stat is a total of fumbles both lost and recovered.

Anyone drafted and signed by the Raiders can be a bust, but never should be considered the bigger bust, because they never had a chance......

Ryan Leaf is the biggest bust... he was rumored to be "better" then Peyton Manning... They said he was a sure thing. They said Jamarcus would be great after he developed.... It's Leaf and not close.

That was Todd Marinovich. Not Tony Manderich. Marinovich was a USC guy. Manderich was Michigan State.

I don't think Mandarich is even in the conversation. he had a ton of hype, and he failed initially out of the gate, but her went on to have a 7 year career with the Pack and Colts. Never lived up to the lofty expectations, but didn't flame out the way Leaf and Russell have. Granted, Russell may not be done yet, but I'm not holding out too much hope.

I just can't buy this "because he was drafted #1, makes him the bigger bust," argument.

The obvious answer is Ryan Leaf. And it is because of Peyton Manning. The reason I say that is because Peyton Manning is a Super Bowl winning quarterback, and right now, has arguments for him for being one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

If you take Leaf over Manning, that is a bigger swing and a miss and strikeout than JaMarcus Russell.

Russell was drafted in front of Adrian Peterson. He's not the best running back of all time....yet.

the rams downfall started when they drafted eric crouch. He retired from football before the 2001 season started. Damn you crouch!

What city do you live in again?

Luckily I didn't live here aduring his time. I will say that SD has breathed a collective sigh of relief now that Russell has taken the spotlight off the Leaf debacle. Now if they could just win a SuperBowl to get that monkey off their back.

Ummmm...Crouch was a 3rd round pick (95 overall) of the Rams in 2002. Where you're getting this he went 31st in 2001, I don't know.

Russell went first. Peterson wasn't drafted. You'd might have a point if they went 1-2, like Manning and Leaf did.

Besides, Adrian Peterson is overrated. (Yes, I am prepared for the flames.)
