What help would that be?
Lard blocks and disrupts shots, but then is totally out of position so we give up 2nd chance points 80% of the time. Plus he only was playing 10 minutes per game, which seems to have gone down to 0 minutes per game. No help there.

MJ always seems to be in no-mans land, halfway between helping and staying with his guy. Doesn't have the quicks, ups, or height to compensate, but he does a good job of getting in position to rebound - just in time to watch the ball go thru the net. Not much help there either.

Conditt is our best help / rim protector IMHO. He is okay at disrupting shots, and probably as good at getting into position to rebound as MJ. But he does make a lot of freshman mistakes. So he is probably serviceable in this aspect, but let's not pretend he is Kelvin Cato either.

I wonder what putting MJ and Conditt on the floor at the same time would be like? It would help with the rebounding, but you'd need to do some very different things offensively. Maybe next year that is our "big" package, vs going small.

The help that is supposed to be there. We're repeatedly hanging back behind the screen, but not in position to stop the drive. They need to get wider for just a fraction of a second, which stops the guard from trying to get into the paint, and then recover back to prevent the lob inside.

Lard is often really bad with on-ball screens. The fact we view trying to disrupt the shot as part of our ball-screen "help" exemplifies how bad it's become.. At that point the ball-screen was already effective for the opposition. We struggle to execute any of the commonly used approaches to defending the perimeter, although I think the guards are equally to blame.

No judgement either way, but if you go MJ and Conditt, you also need to do some very different things defensively.

Talley needs more minutes. Thought he looked good Saturday and the last play of the half that ended up with him looking like he lost his man was Conditt's fault. Conditt stayed at the 3 point line and took Talley's man even though Zoran was right there. Talley then tried to go down low to switch with Conditt, but THT saw George was out of position, so he switched off his guy to guard the post, and by the time Zoran found the guy left unguarded, he had no chance.

I think Talley can be this teams Bowie and be a nice catalyst these next few weeks if Prohm can just let go of whatever it was that got him suspended to start the season.

I think Talley would be a good guy to play at the 4 against Baylor.
Agree. Or even the 5 if our posts are getting abused on the boards by Gillespie while also unable to play ball screens. Baylor doesn’t exactly feed the post on offense. A lot of their paint and post scoring comes by getting the defense out of position, transition, and/or ORebs.

ISU might want to pick off Baylor now because next year I think they will be damn good.
Lose Mason and McClure, but add two transfers at guard, and Lindsey and Clark back from injury.

They’ll be deep which helps when you play/compete like they do, plus have 6 or 7 guys that can shoot/handle. They’ll be able to play small, big, and in-between.
