Best Bars In Des Moines/Ames

What are some of your favorite watering holes in the area? I wouldn't mind checking out a new bar or 2 that I've never been to. As of lately, I've been enjoying a few cold ones over at The Ridgemont on Hickman. They always have good deals such as $4 40oz's on Fridays and the bartending staff are pretty easy on the eyes. :yes:

Before my wife and I got married, she lived off 50th in WDM. Once in a while I would head up the road to Bradleys (just off 235). Never really knew it was there but I really liked that place.

For strictly beer drinking, I find that it's hard to beat El Bait Shop. 100 beers on tap is pretty hard to beat.

When Charlie's Filling Station is rocking, it's hard to beat that atmosphere around DM.

Speaking of the Red Monk and Royal Mile, I've been to these places a ton but a few weeks ago I ate there for the first time. I wasn't expecting much but surprisingly the food was really good. I had the steak and Guinness pie.

^ Yes, the Royal Mile has excellent food. I love to stop there during lunch since I work in the Capital Square building.

Mickey's Irish Pub (downtown) as well as the usual suspects (Royal Mile/Red Monk, High Life Lounge/El Bait Shop). If wan
ting to step it up a bit, Centro's bar is nice.....although not a lot of seating.

Overall, the Full Court Press bars are all really good when you're downtown.

Outside of downtown, I really like the following:

I love Carl's! The Gas Lamp is a good bar too.

I love Carl's! The Gas Lamp is a good bar too.

The Gas Lamp is solid too. Since it's so new, I always forget about it.

Only negative of Carl's is that one of the bartenders is almost always wearing an ANF shirt.

Two downtown bars are owned by the brother and cousin of a walk-on football player, Jace Hawley. He plays kickoff and punt team. They are Beer Can Alley (old sinner and saints) and Heroes.
