Shaka also had some really bad luck in the tournament.

Jesperson threw in a half courter and Texas had all the momentum and would have rolled in Overtime.

This year he got stuck with worst imaginable matchup in the first round. Playing a team from your own state that plays the style that bothers your style the most? That's a recipe for an upset.

But to be fair - with all of the advantages that come with the name Texas and after being there so long, it shouldn't have needed to come down to that. They gave him a decent chance, and while their expectations might be too high, he failed to get them past the first round ever.

There is no scenario where this is career suicide for Beard. With what he accomplished at TT, everyone knows he can recruit and coach at the highest level.

One of two things is going to happen. Either he'll have them at the top of the conference every year and making tourney runs, or there will be validation that their culture is so rotten that it's impossible to overcome... regardless of who's coaching.

"The 48-year-old was formally introduced as the new Longhorns head coach on a Zoom call from the Austin campus. It came a day after a meeting with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte at a Comfort Inn hotel before going to breakfast at a McDonald's in Plainview, Texas, about 45 miles north of the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock".

TexaSS handshake in McDonald's...

Even if he fails at Texas, he can still end up at a school like Tennessee or Marquette. Beard's bank balance and his coaching career will be just fine

What advantages does UT have other than providing a big salary? Fans have never cared about basketball and students even less. No one has done that well there. Rick Barnes is the pinnacle of that programs past. People overvalue the advantages. This isn’t the football team.

The potential to get five-star recruits.

The TT to UT relationship is absolutely insane.

Tech has a passionate hatred of UT on a scale that dwarfs the ISU-UI rivalry.
Meanwhile UT is like "hey, when do we play Oklahoma?"

It's the Little Brother-est relationship in the universe.

TTech is to Texas what UNI is to Iowa State.

UT Rivalrys ranked
1: A&M
2: OU

3: All other Texas schools
