If it was any place except Texas, I would agree. Texas has the most unrealistic expectations of any school in the nation. One bad season and they will sacrifice him.
I feel like Shaka got a decently long leash for never doing anything of note there. I could be wrong, I don't pay too much attention to Texas fans

You do realize that Texas has only had 3 coaches since 1988, right? Penders 10 years, Barnes 17, and Shaka 6. None of them made a final 4. Shaka never won a tourney game. I wouldn’t classify UT basketball as impatient.

Edit- I think Barnes took them to a final four.

Beard is a better coach than the previous 3. I'm guessing he'll get them to a final 4.

Depending on how severe the ripple effect is from Adidas, Texas could become the big dog in the conference. Beard is solid and TU hasn't struggled with bringing in talent and length.

Idk Shaka only went to the tournament 50% of his time in Texas and never made it out of the first round. I don’t think they were planning on firing him since he won the B12 tournament.

It's his alma mater, and I'm assuming he'll be paid at the minimum the same (Tech was paying him 6+mil). He might be a little slimy, but I don't see this particular move as such. Lubbock was a nice place for him to prove himself as a P6 coach and he knocked it out of the park and now has what is potentially a dream job for him.

I wasn't commenting on whether or not he is slimy. I don't think he is particularly slimy. There are way worse. I was merely pointing out that Tech fans can't be that upset since their school poached Beard after he had about 15 minutes on the job at UNLV. He's clearly looking to move up (who could blame him) and Texas is definitely a step up.

You’ve said this before and I’m not sure where you are getting this from. Like another posted said before this hire they have had 3 coaches in 30 years. In that same time frame Iow State has 6 coaches, now 7 with TJ.

Texas is pretty damn patient with all that money, so you need to stop spewing that bs.

I don’t really understand the “career suicide” comments. Beard isn’t going to Austin thinking he’s going to fail. It’s not how those guys are wired

well of course he doesn’t think he will fail. But he could. Karma is a *****.

I can think of two coaches we’ve had that left for better jobs and did not have success afterwards.
