I recommend Tommy's Salon in West Ames. It's in the building just to the west of Ames Racquet and Fitness. It's going to cost a few dollars more than great clips, but well worth it.

Two words: scalp massage.

Then again, I'm biased. (wife runs the place)

The Great Clips at the mall has a guy with a Flock Of Seagulls Mullet that does a nice job. You should try him out.

That guy destroyed my hair a couple years ago. Bad enough that I went home and cut it myself after he screwed it up. There's a male stylist at Marc Stephen's in the Main Street area that does mine, he does a great job...pretty pricey though.

I shave my head but i might pay to get a scalp massage, I loved those when I had longer hair.

I could never figure out how this guy got hired, unless he had the job starting in the 1980's. How do you walk into a place, even Great Clips, looking like that and expect to get a job?

"Oh what's your specialty" - Owner

"I have two, the Flock of Sea Gulls and the Mullet" - Mullet Hair Stylist

"You need to be transfered to Iowa City, you will make a killing" - Owner

I used to go to Tom's Barber Shop on Main Street, just east of Clark.

He always did a great job on my hair.

Monty's is the best hands down. Get a good cut for a good price and GREAT sports talk. It is pretty hard to mess up a mans hairs so I pick a barber on the atmosphere. Been going to Monty's for 10+ years and don't plan on changing

Who is that guy in campus town on Lincoln Way, is he still there? He did a good job but you had to listen to him rant about health crap the whole time.

I can't remember his name but I went there once and heard him rant on why you shouldn't drink milk. That alone made me never go back.

Are you talking about the guy at "All Cuts", I think it was called? I got my haircut from him in the mid-90s and he was ranting about fast food, etc. He gave me a card with a bunch of health tips on it. I think his wife died of cancer or something, and that set him off on the health kick.

Ray at All Cuts. The guy was a bit out there at times - but did a good job and was a great guy - well - still is.

Went there once and had forgot my wallet at the dorm. Instead of making me go back to get it before he cut my hair - he just told me to bring it next time. When I did, he tried to refuse it.

Yeah, that guy is still there. I went to him for a HC a few weeks ago. Still talks your ear off about government, health and where you're from in Iowa. Fairly cheap and does a decent job though.

Another possibility, there is a new Sports Cuts over on Duff.

I used to go to that guy all the time... I loved his rant on how a pop machine in every school was the biggest conspiracy in the country.

Was it 'Terrible Fred' at The Head Shop? Is he still around? Great haircut and learned about the birds N bees for like $8.00 years ago.

Also, he has (or used to few years back) a few dirty magazines to pass time in case you are waiting.

I still go to All Cuts when I am in town. Good haircut at a fair price. Nice to find an actual barber still around.

Monte totally.
Cheap and good talk.

He was my landlord for a couple of years, I lived in the worst house in Ames (next door to the west)...he might be a slum lord, but he bought us some beer for taking care of the place.

Keep it real Monty!

Nah. Monty is the best. I've been going to him for over 20 years.

Went there twice and thought he sucked. I discovered I could use the clippers myself and give a better quality haircut for $16 less.

I'd go to Cyclone Barber on Main Street, if it's still there. I never went there, because I am a dirty hippie, but the owner was always pretty cool to us grunts at the country club.
