Swerved to miss a buzzard in the road and ran straight into an 18-wheeler.

That road is very narrow and has some limited sight lines. Hate driving that road. Trees on both sides at times, RR tracks on one side, and no shoulder.

Terrible news. There was a basketball player that goes to a local college here near by that got killed in a wreck along with the ISU hockey player that passed away. Praying for them and their families.

Sounds similar to the Chris Street accident, just substitute a buzzard for a blizzard.

My old man drilled into me "Do not swerve for animals, do not swerve for animals, do not swerve for animals" so many times when I was little (well before I was old enough to drive) that instinctively I will not/cannot swerve for animals. That and "look out for the other guy" was stated so many times that the minister even used it in his eulogy.

Has been a horrible month for Big 12 personnel and their travels.

Praying for everyone that has suffered losses over the last couple of weeks.

Stay safe on the roads everyone.

Some of the best advice to give to a new driver.

NEVER swerve for an animal. Better to hit an animal at highway speed than swerve and hit a car/truck at twice highway speed or risk rolling in the ditch.

Condolences to his family.

I tell that to my son (who is not yet driving age) all the time. Unless there is an elephant in the road, running over the animal is almost always the safest option. Terrible story, and may God bless his family with strength through such a trying time.

It's cool to drive that into someones head but reactions take over in that situation and you don't know what you will do.

I found out that I don't swerve because I chopped the head off a deer going 70 on I-35.
