My wife and I had a big discussion and I have convinced here that I really want to live in the warmth year round. She told me to find a job, a place to live, and go down for 2 months to see if it is something we would love. (She would stay here working at her current position while I'm exploring)

Anyone who lives down there give me any ideas of anything and everything? Thanks!

Phoenix is like living in Hell during the summer. There are a number of places that you can live in warmth without having to live in a furnace.

Go in December and go in July.

I've got a friend who moved down there 20 years ago for the same reason. He seems to like it.

I however have been there in the winter and the summer, and I think their summers are nearly as bad as our winters. It get's so stinking hot they won't allow planes to take off at times from the airport, because the "lift" isn't as good in high heat.

When it get's like that you basically sit in your home all day in a/c and only come out when you have to or in the evenings.

It's a great place to visit in the winter and I can see myself becoming a snow bird and going down December through March.

About what? You know its warm and sunny 95% of the year, be a little more specific.

I have never understood why anyone would want to live in that kind of heat without a beach around... My advice, look at the Jacksonville, FL area... Home prices and cost of living is really good right now...

Any information that might be useful. What parts of Arizona, night life, bars where clones meet for game day, what job ops. there.... etc. etc.

What is your background? Intel is there, but I'm not sure if you're an engineer or anything.

Basically what you have in Phoenix is a lot of people from other states originally living there. It doesn't really have a set culture or set way. Of course there is a lot of Latin American heritage there as well.

As far as living goes, the weather sucks in the summer. All you want to do is stay inside until the sun goes down. In the spring and winter it is very nice.

If the summers didn't suck so much, I'd consider living there.

I have lived in Phoenix and I left. The weather is great but the traffic is increasingly horrible and (at least in my opinion) the quality of lifestyle has deteriorated and is continuing to deteriorate because of the population growth.

I have since moved to Frisco, Texas and I like it much better than the Phoenix area. The weather is comparable and the traffic, population issues are a lot less. Plus this area is very afordable and really has not been significantly impacted by the current recession.

I wish I would have done this years ago!

I will add to my post that Tucson is pretty cool. Phoenix will likely have more job opportunities though. My dad did some research at the University of Arizona and I visted him often...

Crime in Florida and AZ are freaking terrible...

stick around in Iowa. It's gonna get warm soon! :jimlad:

The drug cartels have moved into Phoenix and 400 people were abducted last year, just behind mexico City. With poor border control, the twon is going downhill. Thy have numerous foreclosed houses, however. I would locate in the outskirts to the northeast if I were you. They certainly have a diverse population:

My folks live down there. The economy has hit Phoenix hard and it has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

I love phoenix, people say summers are hell but i disagree although they are really hot I am more comfortable with 106 there than 85 and humid here in Iowa. the housing market now down there is ridiculous, you can get super cheap homes that are bigger than what you may be used to here. plus it has a ton more exciting things to do there( golf all year long, pro sports teams, close to the beach(5hrs), close to vegas (4hrs)) its got a lot of benefits but there is a lot more crime so that is a draw back. but i still like it!

We have been thinking about the Frisco/McKinney area... My brother moved down there a few years ago and really likes it...

We got a winner. 105 degrees and 5% humidity is more tolerable than 85 degrees and 80% humidity. I grew up in a desert in Washington state, though we didn't have the extreme heat that Phoenix has, it was 100 degrees or more for over half of July and averages in the 90's in June and August. I would take that over the summers here any day.

The key is drink lots of water- all the time. In Iowa, you get a drink with every breath; in Phoenix, you will loss a drink with every breath. Eight glasses a day is not enough.

And don't forget, you have monsoons in the summer.
