Just bought a house that hasn't been lived in for almost 3 years and the old owners left several belongings, including a Sentry electronic keypad safe. I haven't called Sentry yet (duh, everyone comes here first with questions) since I'm sure they don't make it a practice to tell people how to get into their safes. Anyone have any suggestions besides TNT?

Can't really help you except to say that Sentry's are garbage so I wouldn't worry about damaging it if you just want to know what the contents are.

Maybe you should do a Geraldo-like special and open it live by video feed here on CF for all of us to see? CW could host.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Sentry will help you out. Probably have to somehow prove you didn't steal it but I imaging there are plenty of people that forget their combo or lose their keys.

Sounds like a good plot for "Ocean's 14".

Almost had to last week! I got done putting stuff in there, and locked her up, and then figured out that I had left the combination inside the safe. Luckily, due to my rainman-like powers, I was able to remember the combination and get it back open.

My wife did not think this was funny.

If cartoons as a kid didn't lie to me, you are going to need a stethoscope. A ski mask would help but probably isn't required. I think tip-toeing helps as well.

my wife suggested a stethoscope as well.

How will a stethoscope help with an electronic keypad? There are no tumblers that move that give away the combination via sound.

One thing I know for certain, pulling it behind an orange 1969 Dodge Charger emblazoned with the Confedrate battle flag will not get the safe open. Even if you shout "Yee-Haw" while doing it.

Unless you have video of this I refuse to take your word on it.

I don't know that a stethoscope would be much help with a digital keypad safe.

Sentry should be able to help you out, or if you don't care much about saving the safe itself, you could try drilling out the lock. Always remember that a safe is only there to slow people down when trying to get your stuff, not to keep them from getting it completely.

If you do choose to drill it out, get a few carbide tipped drill bits and go slowly, using some sort of lubricant to keep the drilling site cool if possible.

If you actually want to save the safe, you might try talking to a locksmith to see if they can do something for you.
