I was wondering what she's charged with too. The story says "sexual exploitation," so I'm guessing that's a statute that always makes it a crime for a teacher to have sex with a student.

One of the comments below the story says:

Iowa Code 709.15 SEXUAL EXPLOITATION BY A COUNSELOR, THERAPIST, OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE.

Since when is having sex with an eighteen year old male sexual exploitation?

Since our Legislators have made "Sexual eploitation by a school employee" illegal, regardless of age.

Its either a class "D" felony or an aggravated misdemeanor depending on if their was a pattern or not.

Maybe what if a teacher is 22 and just got out of college. The act didn't happen at school. What is wrong with this situation? It is only 4 years difference.

Because you are supposed to be a professional with some common sense. What good would come out of hooking up with a student besides awkwardness, public humiliation, questions of fairness, maybe a kid??

If true, that's a ridicoulous law.

What if it was a male teacher and female student?

If she's 18, it shouldn't be a crime. Yes, the teacher should be barred from ever teaching again, but he/she shouldn't face charges.

By the way, to act like men and women deal with these kinds of things the same way is nuts.

the age of consent in iowa is 14 as long you aren't four years or more older then them. It's 16 otherwise. But obviously this falls under the school employee prohibition. So they should have waited till 30 days after he graduated, as long as he doesn't play summer baseball.

So does this law cover those cases where a school employee supervises another school employee (example principal and teacher) and there is sexual exploitation?

Man, i went to a boring high school where the teachers weren't very good looking. Except for 1. Oh yeah... she was hot :notworthy:
We had 2 drop-dead gorgeous teachers...

and so far in college, one drop-dead gorgeous professor.
