The man had to sit through a lot of bad football, though basketball was pretty solid. But at least he got to see a couple of good football seasons before his passing

I know that LE bawled his eyes out when he got the news.

Imagine Pete getting to call the last 8 years of Cyclone football

Or him being here when Fred restarted the program
I think about this often.

Deonte Burton comes to mind. Can you imagine him calling that alley oop dunk from Naz in the Big 12 title game!? Or Deonte draining 8 three pointers in the Phog, including that 30 footer right in front of the press row.

Or football too - any of Breece’s 60+ yard TD runs. The missed field goal from Texas to clinch our spot in the Big 12 title game.

A voice silenced too soon. :(

I was driving when I heard news. I had to pull over and park asap. Imagine him calling last night's game. Would have been alot of good griefs and good nights.

I got see to him and Eric call his last game at Nebraska because seats were second row behind media.
Always remember the empty feeling during the pregame show the night of his death.....

My dad was a rural mail carrier and had to get up early, so he missed Barry Steven’s shot against Missouri as he was in bed. His alarm went off at exactly 5:00 a.m. with the radio as the alarm. The first thing he heard was the CBS news jingle then their lead story with Pete‘s call. My dad jumped out of bed full of adrenaline.

As great of a job as Walters has done, still miss Pete having grown up listening to ISU games while running my parents old JD 4440 and sometimes wonder what some of the calls for recent games would have been like if he was still around. Hard to believe it’s been that long

Thanks for this tread. Pete’s daughter had kids that went to school with mine. She was really sad because she thought no one cared about him anymore. I sent her a link to the other thread honoring Pete. I hope we can keep these threads for Pete going. He was a great human and loved the Clones. To me, he will always be the voice of the Cyclones!

A good time to post this. Just had to ask Pete sign this after we won it all. Have most of the men and women signatures and coaches for that team. What a year. No one like Pete. No one.

I know with 22 years passing there is a group that can only know him from clips but I hope his daughter knows that Cyclone fans who grew up listening to Pete have and will never stop caring or remembering this man. He truly was and will forever be the heart of Iowa State.

I was going to ISU when Pete was chosen to be the voice of the Cyclones. At the time it was considered a travesty among our diehard fan group that a Hawkeye grad was hired. Not too long until it became obvious that although Pete was an Iowa grad, he was a Cyclone at heart.

If you see her, tell her that he is always in our hearts.
