Picture taken from the top of the Ames power plant not too long ago, looking south towards HWY 30. You can see Target in about the center of the picture.
Yowza! I'm having flashbacks to the floods of '93. I was in Ames for the weekend, intending to head back home on Sunday afternoon and get back to my summer job. The floods closed off virtually every road surrounding Ames, and I was stuck there for a couple of extra days. Not that I'm complaining -- two more days to hang out and drink beer with my friends -- but the floods were pretty disastrous for the city and the whole state. I sure hope it doesn't get to that level again.Picture taken from the top of the Ames power plant not too long ago, looking south towards HWY 30. How much has it rained?

This weekend's forecast is no rain and warm. Saturday will be in the 80's.
Here comes that Iowa humidity...

Ames basically has nothing on Davenport for the flood of '93 and again in '00. Everyone in the United States has heard of John O'Donnell Stadium and the mental image that goes with that is a small minor-league baseball stadium in the middle of a rushing river
No disrespect intended towared the good people of the Quad Cities. I have a lot of friends who lived there when the floods hit. It seemed like the whole state of Iowa was underwater in the summer of '93. But Ames got its share, too. When I was stranded there, my friends and I drove around where we could to see the results of the floods. The Iowa State Center was essentially sitting in the middle of a brand new lake, and floor of Hilton was completely underwater. Crazy times...Ames basically has nothing on Davenport for the flood of '93 and again in '00. Why, because they've been destroyed by the floodwaters? :wink0st:When was that first picture taken? There seems to be some buildings in it that I dont think are still there?
