Im starting to like AP more and more. At first I was in the group that thought that they just prey on old people, but the more I think about it alot of the people on the show probably aren't too far from passing and leaving all that stuff to their children. I imagine alot of the children have busy lives and don't want to be responsible for doing something with all that stuff. If these guys can come by and take some of it off their hands it's a good thing.

The other thing I like about them is that it doesn't seem like they are trying to con anyone out of anything. If someone offers them something at too low of a price they will said "This is with X amount of dollars, I am trying to double my money so I will give you this". I've always loved Pawn Stars but it's nice to see the AP guys be upfront and honest with people, as opposed to the way the PS guys do things.

We stopped by the pawn shop when we were in Vegas but none of the guys were there, not surprising but I wanted to meet Chumlee!

You know some people must look for something different just so they can get on the show(Pawn stars) and take whatever they get knowing with some people just being on the show is enough for them. I like both shows just for the history lessons, for things I had forgot even ment anything. now as I travel the state I find myself looking in these farm yards for things.

Keep in mind that a lot of these old guys that the American Pickers stop in on are a type of pickers themselves. They have spent years going around to garage sales and estate auctions to collect all of the junk that they have. Most of them buy it because they think they got a steal but then they never sell any of it.

1st, I love Pawn stars, I think the whole shop is fantastic.

The other thing I constantly ask myself is, WHY DO PEOPLE BRING THIS **** TO A PAWNSHOP?????

If I have a baseball signed by Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, not bringing it to a pawn shop.

If I have a priceless ANYTHING, I'm going to find the right audience to sell it to, an auction house, an antique collector, not the pawn shop.

$ today/now > $ later

Simple as that...these people need money and need it now...for whatever reason. It takes much more time and effort to find a buyer for most of the things you see on the show than it does to sell at the pawn shop.

Love both shows.

As some have said already, anyone who is claiming that the AP guys are "preying on the elderly" have never had to deal with executing a large estate after a loved one passes. My grandparents had saved so much stuff (as a lot of people who lived through the Great Depression do) that we ended up just getting a dumpster and trashing 90% of it because it was just way too overwhelming..

For these folks to get some money, not too mention the satisfaction of actually cashing in on some of the items they have been holding onto for so long, is a service. It is not surprising that most of the old guys on the show always say they would love to have the American Pickers back at any time when they are interviewed at the end.
