I'm heading there in July. What do you think a tshirt signed by Chizik and Mcdermott is worth? Maybe I can toss in a couple of commemorative coins to sweeten the deal.

The American Pickers are out of LeClaire, just up the road from Davenport. Saw Frank out at the bar one night a couple months back. Both shows are great, btw.

Love both of those shows. Pawn Stars amazes me with the stuff they get in there, especially all 1800's items.

Did you see the Revolutionary War Bond that was engraved by Paul Revere on King George's paper...the expert they called in said it would get $25,000-$35,000 at auction and I think the ******* sold it to Rick for $12,000 and a guitar.

I am still addicted to Pawn Stars, but I agree that pretty much everyone besides Rick seems really scripted. It's always interesting to see people's reactions. I haven't seen a ton of American Pickers, but find it fascinating that they're from Iowa.

Pawn Stars is like Antique Roadshow with haggling and a deal being made.

You would be amazed...really amazed at what people have saved. And yes, they do sell at auction; we sometimes sell items at our auctions that are brought to us by "pickers."

Sometimes we run across estates where the house is just packed full of collectibles...it seems like some people have a gift for predicting which items will be collectible 50 years into the future and they just save everything!

Actually, I think some people save EVERYTHING and some of it ends up being collectible more so than they know what to save.

I love how the 'Pickers' call their cold calling on people "freestyling".

Love Pawn Stars, although the haggling makes me a bit uncomfortable sometimes. Especailly when you can tell it's someone that really needs money and gets talked into selling something for 1/3rd of its value.

I love the haggling. I think that Rick and the boys are very fair but make no mistake, they are running a business and they are only going to pay wholesale price...not retail.

I also think the Pickers are very fair and don't seem inclined to screw over anyone...at least not in front of the camera!

I like the pickers show better. I just can't believe some of the stuff all those farms have.

I'm not surprised at all. I grew up in a tiny little town in north central Iowa, and I can think of between 5-10 farms in the area that would be gold mines for these guys. Some people just can't part with anything.

American Pickers reminds me of the Hoarders show on A&E except instead of helping the people they buy the stuff on American Pickers.

American Pickers is a well-done show. I don't like Pawn Stars so much. It is too "scripted". Nobody in the entire world is as dumb as Chumlee is made out to be. The humor is too predictable. (Such as when they bought a ball-and-chain, and I KNEW 10 minutes before it happened that Chumlee would break something with it. Sure enough, he did). Nevertheless, the show is very informative about history and such.
Love Pickers, was high on Pawn Stars until they started openly scripting and plugging Subway.

Yeah, the scripting is my chief complaint as well. Nearly every word that comes out of the Old Man's mouth just sounds so phony. And Chum's little excursions are pretty clearly manufactured. It's too bad, because the show would hold up just fine without the cheesy stuff. I'd still watch if it was just Rick talking to customers without all the other flufff.

Pawn stars is epic. I record everyone and watch it. Rick has endless knowledge especially for a 10th grade dropout. Chumlee really is an idiot. Watch the videos on history channel.com

The thing that amazes me about Pawn Stars is the bankroll those guys must be running. It's pretty serious for a pawn shop to have the kind of money to throw around to purchase an item that may or may not go back up for sale, and if it does it could be months before a relevant auction comes up.

I think people I know are pack rats than I watch Pickers and it makes them look like neat freaks. The worse part is people forget they have the stuff then dont want to sell it. If those guys showed up at my place I would tell them to have at it.

Pawn stars is way staged, you can see them just standing around looking busy, when people walk up to them. It is still a good show and some of the thing people try to sell make you go why or WTF. It fun to see people get ****** when they find out they have fake stuff.

Yes, thats almost my favorite part! :biglaugh: Like the lady that brought in the "ivory" tusk with artwork engraved in it, only to find out it was fake.
I also find it funny when somebody brings in something that is cool to them or they have personalized it somehow and want a crap load of money for it, and Rick doesn't even want it or offers something really small, they get really mad.

I believe the first weekend of June is 'Picker Days' in LeClaire, IA.

There's a celebration being hosted at their shop. I've been in the shop because I know Mike. He's always turning up stuff that makes me jealous and at prices that make me even more jealous. I've got the middle man involved since I shop at antique stores and estate sales mostly (or ebay.)

I can still get things cheap every now and then. I just bought a motorcycle today for 100 bucks.

Love Pickers, was high on Pawn Stars until they started openly scripting and plugging Subway.

That obstacle course "race" between Big Hoss and Chumlee was absolutely hilarious...they both need to get on board with Jared and lose some lbs.

I have no problem with them working a sponsor into their show...as I said before, these guys are in business to make money...nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

And the settling of a bet by one taking the other out to dinner on American Pickers wasn't 'scripted'? Again...so what in my opinion.

Both great shows.

PS: With that gravelly voice how many packs a day do you thing Rick smokes?
