The thing that amazes me about Pawn Stars is the bankroll those guys must be running. It's pretty serious for a pawn shop to have the kind of money to throw around to purchase an item that may or may not go back up for sale, and if it does it could be months before a relevant auction comes up.

I agree. And everything they buy has to be kept for a month, I believe, in a room for the authorities to look it over and make sure it is not stolen/fenced merchandise...that would take some serious cash flow.

I don't know if you caught the episode where a guy brought in a home movie of FDR and wanted $90,000 for it...Rick didn't make an offer on it but said if the movie would have shown FDR in his wheelchair he would have paid $90,000 for it on the spot without question.

I guess it's good to have a pawn shop in Vegas...gotta get that bank to go to the casinos...or get some cash to keep eating after the casino takes your bank...so people will sell about anything, apparently.

I believe the first weekend of June is 'Picker Days' in LeClaire, IA.

There's a celebration being hosted at their shop. I've been in the shop because I know Mike. He's always turning up stuff that makes me jealous and at prices that make me even more jealous. I've got the middle man involved since I shop at antique stores and estate sales mostly (or ebay.)

I can still get things cheap every now and then. I just bought a motorcycle today for 100 bucks.

I'm curious...did they pitch the show to someone? How exactly, did this show come to be? Do you know?

Chumlee's acting the role of Oddjob the other night was hilarious. When they pair up Chum and Rick it is absolutely must see TV. So far the item that I wish I had from the show is the Kiss Pinball.

I love how they make Chumlee test all the weapons. I also love how they do restoration projects.

I think they've had the shop since the mid 1980s when Rick and the Old Man started it. They've grown to be pretty huge as they make 100s of transactions daily. They are open 24 hours a day.

Both of these shows are awesome and cater to everyone's dream, namely to find treasure in a pile of junk. I'm amazed at Mike Wolf's ability to find rusty junk and recognize it for what it is, a couple of examples being the Harley Davidson bicycle crank and the Indian Motorcyle side-car frame.

The part they don't show, yet interests me, is who they're selling these items to. They don't appear to have Pawn Stars level capitalization, so I'm assuming they turn things pretty fast (ie - the Ohio Pottery purchase). Does Danielle contact buyers for them?

As for Pawn Stars, I think Shawn the antique arms and armor expert should have his own show; Rick Dale the restoration guy could as well...

Did you see the Revolutionary War Bond that was engraved by Paul Revere on King George's paper...the expert they called in said it would get $25,000-$35,000 at auction and I think the ******* sold it to Rick for $12,000 and a guitar.

I was amazed at this as well. For the convenience, I could see leaving a couple hundred dollars on the table and selling something to Rick. But this idiot left ten to twenty thousand dollars! He said yes once the guitar was thrown in? He could have bought twenty guitars.

Watch both shows just can't believe the knowledge Rick has on Pawn stars, I have learned a lot history from both shows. Thank god pickers aren't wearing coveralls and cornseed hats!!!!!!

I just got back from Las Vegas, i went to the "pawn shop" and i must say what a joke. Place is tiny, they make you wait behind a velvet rope and the security guard is strapped and when you finally get in you are like is this it? It is really tiny, it almost looked like they purposely took stuff from the TV show and placed it around this tiny room just to make you feel like you were in the right place. Then half the damn place is full of T shirts and **** from the show. Its kind of a joke

I really enjoy both of these shows. Found out my mom knows Frank well from her days in Abate. I guess she is the only female he has ever let ride any of his harley davidson collection so she claims.

Had the same impression when I went there too. Old man and Rick weren't even there it was just Chum and Corey.

I am pretty sure Mike and Frank have been to some of my self Storage Lien Sales in the past, but we get lots of people like them. Lots of people love digging for treasure. We had one unit get sold for around $500 and have around $30k worth of antique weapons in it.

I'm curious...did they pitch the show to someone? How exactly, did this show come to be? Do you know?

If I remember right, about two years ago, they had a link to a web video they had made by a professional production company in Wisconsin. This company films pilot episodes that they pitch to the big networks like Discovery or whoever.

It was a 15 minute or so long video showing them going through a school bus some old guy had stuffed completely full of motorcycles and scooters. Similar to the regular show, but instead of focusing on the humanity story of the owners of the junk, the pilot was just this crazy trip with them pulling treasure out of the woods left and right.

Of course, to get on The History Channel, they had to tie the items to history with a story and sort of give you a personality profile of the people they were dealing with.

Honestly, the first episode made me sort of cringe the way they seemed to be taking advantage of old Leland in northern Iowa. I am WAY too ethical to be in the junker line of work. In fact, I'm one of the best people to buy things from because I feel guilty ripping people off and never send anyone away with my conscience being guilty. That means I'll never make mad money like these two are.

As far as knowing about the show, I think I heard that Discovery had picked them up like a year before it came onto TV. So I think if you have an HD camcorder and some video production skills, you can go submit your idea for TV shows to the networks and perhaps be the next Iowan TV stars.

Loved the end...he is reading the ****** from Goldfinger...at the very end instead of saying 'Bond...James Bond'...he says "Lee...Chumlee"...cracked up at that!

I wonder how many people go in there now just to screw with them. Take in an old piece of junk, claim it belonged to Paul Revere or something just to try to get on the show...

So you guys are saying I can buy my wife a Pawn Stars Tshirt when I am in Vegas. Maybe by then they will have a shirt with Chumlee in a James Bond pose with the caption Lee Chumlee. Where is this place located in reference to the strip?

Yes! History Channel FTW!

My favorite episode of Pawn Stars was when the seller recovered a Shelby Mustang body (authenticated) in one of his storage sheds from some guy who didn't pay. And everyone made out like bandits (except the guy who left it in the storage shed without paying his rent). I wish I remembered how the numbers worked out...I was thinking Rick bought the body for like $20k, had his "guy" finish it into an actual car and then could sell it for bank.

I think the best part about the Shelby is that the guy who sold the shelby body was the guy who was paid to tow the car out of the garage that another guy bought. Not only did they guy make money selling the shelby body, but got paid to do so. I was thinking that he made more that $20k and Rick had to put like $90k into the car.

Yeah, the scripting is my chief complaint as well. Nearly every word that comes out of the Old Man's mouth just sounds so phony. And Chum's little excursions are pretty clearly manufactured. It's too bad, because the show would hold up just fine without the cheesy stuff. I'd still watch if it was just Rick talking to customers without all the other flufff.
Rick's "Chris Farley" laugh drives me nuts.
"Do I want it? Hell yes I want it!"
