You can partly blame the athletic association for that. Summer Baseball means no spring football like they have in a lot of states down south. 10 spring practices each year over 4 years basically equates to a 5th season of football practices.

Exactly. It's a different animal down south. Add to it that some of the HS facilities are better than some college facilities and there is a reason that those schools pump out a ton of D1 talent every single year. I think there are more and more Iowa High schools that are stepping up, but they will never reach the level of the big TX schools. Heck, we will don't even have big enough high schools to get the talent pool that some of them do.

The athletes are here though, just less of them. They are just harder to find and usually need an extra year or two to develop.

While the family connection was there, what's great about getting Lazard is that he could have gone anywhere. ANYWHERE. We don't get this kid a few short years ago. What CPR is doing is just phenomenal. Too bad we have to wait a year!

Wait, what? How does a sport in the summer conflict with a sport in the spring? If anything, wouldn't Track and Field be the conflicting sport? I don't understand.

An additional benefit to the Campos, Lazard, and Lanning commitments is that it will increase ISU's popularity among the casual central Iowa fan. We'll get a lot more people interested in watching our highlights and games when they recognize the names of the kids who are making the plays. "Remember how good he was at Ankeny", etc... Iowa has had that advantage over ISU in the state for quite some time.

Definitely the time to expand the stadium with the SEZ project.

This is GREAT news. Really, the only thing too surprising is that he announced so early. The only two schools we need to worry about IMO are Oregon and LSU. If they offer it could get a little nervewracking, though he could very well stick with ISU.

I think the Pierschbacher and Scheel talk is a little far-fetched. Scheel will be a Hawkeye, IMO. Pierschbacher could end up at Iowa, but I see him at Notre Dame in the end. Either way, I don't see Ross coming to ISU, unfortunately.

We have a good shot a Scheel, but UO will be tough to beat. Hopefully Chip goes to the NFL.

Haven't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I found some highlights here

Allen Lazard - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl

Being an Urbandale grad, this makes me extremely happy.

Now thats a highlight video... wow! Some great hands, out jumps everyone for the ball, has one hell of a stiff arm and run after catch ability too! not to mention blocking from the WR spot he's destroying the corner everytime at half the time the man he's blocking ends up on his *** haha

Holy crap, no kidding. It doesn't start with anything incredible, but at the 2:00 mark.... oh... my... the kid is insane. Amazing grab by Coach. Love the ESPN article about him also where he mentions now wanting to recruit other out-of-state kids to come join him in Ames. So happy with the outlook of the future.

Spring football takes place in late may/early june, right at the same time baseball is ramping up.

Yeah, I was lumping in the whole coaching staff with CPR. They are all really dedicated to mining the state of Iowa for whatever gems they can find. We have made a ton of progress since the chiz debacle in bringing in and developing Iowa kids. The best part is, they are doing it the right way. They are getting preferred walk-ons and grey shirts to come in and pay their dues before they get a shollie. Some coaches, cough DMac cough, would have given scholarships to all of them. There are a decent number of football players in Iowa though, but because we don't have as many established HS football programs, a lot of the kids are not as developed as TX boys from football factories.
Did we have to spoil this thread and mention chizbang again? Really, let's keep his references to a minimum. He might be working on the Salvation Army line in Ames for all we know. The Chiz was the most meteoric coach we have seen. He is history.

Well in that case...

Dont kids play 7 on 7 all summer though? Plus, not all kids play both sports. That's not to say a spring season wouldn't be a good thing.

If Lazard not only keeps his commitment to the Clones, but he also actively recruits other kids to Ames as well, he could go down as one of the most liked Cyclone players ever. I love hearing that!

I know this might sound kinda crazy, but this kid is only in his junior year of high school. He could actually get bigger. Maybe not taller, but bigger. He's 6'5" and 202 lbs now, but what if he gets to Ames and he's 6'6" and 240 lbs or something? Is there any chance he ends up at TE? I know probably not, but who knows how much bigger he might get? Just a thought. He's going to be a beast at WR or TE, so it doesn't really matter.

you don't turn the nations #1 WR into a TE this isn't the ******* B1G, if he ends up 6'5"-6'6" and 220-240 he will be a match up nightmare at wr, tall enough and fast enough to beat any safety they line up on him and too physical for any corner, although he is already a very physical WR, we got a special one

I came away more impressed with his blocking than his receiving and his receiving was excelent.

I had a weird feeling about him after he retweeted shot Campos on Saturday. I had no idea this was coming tho. Great to have him on board, hope he can go out and recruit for ISU.
