Well in that case...

Dont kids play 7 on 7 all summer though? Plus, not all kids play both sports. That's not to say a spring season wouldn't be a good thing.
Not all of them do, but a ton of the skill kids do, in all classes. Then you throw in all the summer basketball that goes on as well. It makes for a pretty busy summer and most of your 7-on-7 have to plan for that.

To be honest, this was hardly a fair recruitment battle. Didn't his father play for Iowa State and isn't his brother on the team now? We had a huge advantage going into this one.

Yeah, just like with Harrison Barnes, right?

Sorry but I did chuckle at the suggestion of moving Lazard to TE. This is one of the - perhaps THE - best wide receiver recruits in the whole Class of 2014. This is a guy that other defenses spend their weeks scheming around. An absolute difference maker on the outside.

If Lazard not only keeps his commitment to the Clones, but he also actively recruits other kids to Ames as well, he could go down as one of the most liked Cyclone players ever. I love hearing that!

I know this might sound kinda crazy, but this kid is only in his junior year of high school. He could actually get bigger. Maybe not taller, but bigger. He's 6'5" and 202 lbs now, but what if he gets to Ames and he's 6'6" and 240 lbs or something? Is there any chance he ends up at TE? I know probably not, but who knows how much bigger he might get? Just a thought. He's going to be a beast at WR or TE, so it doesn't really matter.

Come on man, you must really like people disagreeing with you. It's like an addiction for you, isn't it? Why would that even be an option?

On a different point, one of the great things about this is that he has absolutely every opportunity to come in and start as a true freshman. He won't need to develop his body, and wait till late his RS freshman year to start contributing (a la Bundrage). He will be a factor his first year with his athleticism.

That comment is golden. I really hope you are not from Ankeny but made that observation anyways. I know exactly who you are talking about and it is quite laughable.

I'm not from Ankeny. The coaches seem like great guys, but you can tell they know they are special as they prowl.

Welcome aboard Allen, glad to have you!

So, watching the highlight video is what I imagine me playing tackle football with 6th graders would look like. That was just ridiculous, he looks 7' tall and twice as fast as everyone. I especially like the play where he runs down the runningback and steals the ball from him after a 30yd run, that had to be more than a little dis-heartening for the other team.

Anyone know if he runs track? Interested, since his 40 time on espn is obviously wrong.
edit: Also, looks like he could high jump about 6'6" without much coaching.

He was on the state champion shuttle hurdle team for Urbandale. I'm not sure what other events he does, but with his size and speed, my guesses are High Jump, 110 HH's, shuttle hurdles, and either long jump/400 lows/4X100

Last night when Keith Murphy was reporting about Lazard on the news he said he runs a 4.5 40. I don't know where he got the information, but that's not what he said.

If that's true, a 4.5 40 at 6'5"...:swoon:

Josh Helmholdt ‏@JoshHelmholdt
@Mitch_Arnold10 No, but he is faster than 4.88. 4.5 range I'd say. Route running is area to work on, Playmaking ability biggest strength

He didn't participate in track his sophomore year. I believe he played hoops for Martin Bros in the Spring instead.

Yes this is true. One of my best friends plays on the Martin Bros with him. He tells me he's a freak of nature athlete. Honestly didn't think we had a chance with him once LSU started recruiting him so it was a big surprise to me. A very good surprise though:yes:

4.5 forty at 6'5''? That would remind me of another receiver from a bit ago...

I don't get on HN very often but figured I would to check out their thoughts on the recent commitments since this place is dead at this time and I'm awake. Just four days ago, Hawkfromnorwalk posted this gem in the Campos thread: "First time in years that ISU has taken the top rated recruit in the state. Hopefully it's not a trend."

HawkfromNorwalk makes clones21, rebecacy and many others seem like good message board posters.

I didn't remember him being that bad when he used to post here, but he is really insufferable on HN the couple of times curiousity has gotten the better of me and I've gone over there.

Thanks for the info gents, the 4.5 range looks more accurate.

Agreed on the route running critique, but it's also farily obvious that he doesn't need to run routes at this level.
Hard to beleive he's a Jr. in HS.

The thought of having a Terrence Williams or Tavon Austin level playmaker on our team in the coming years has me very excited.
