wow. was there any damage of anything? the reporter said those things usually don't happen over populated areas. anyone know why?

What I gathered was that it was only a few meters in length, and burnt up into tinier pieces before it even hit the ground. Still pretty cool though.

Why? Just because of the odds of it. The vast majority of the earth is unpopulated, so the chances of one coming down in a populated area is much lower than the chances of one coming down anywhere else.
