What I gathered was that it was only a few meters in length, and burnt up into tinier pieces before it even hit the ground. Still pretty cool though.

Why? Just because of the odds of it. The vast majority of the earth is unpopulated, so the chances of one coming down in a populated area is much lower than the chances of one coming down anywhere else.

Let just hope there is never a mass quantity of these all at once. Way cool to look at though.
