If Thibodeau leaves Chicago, don't be surprised for the Bulls to make a push for Fred. Fred and Gar Forman are very good friends.

Not saying Fred leaves, just something to watch for.
Fairly certain the recent salary increase for Fred was somewhat related to what is happening in Minnesota. Probably first rumblings of are you were interested began a month ago. Good work JP.

I read the title as " Abdel not returning" as in Nader leaving, which made me way more nervous than the threat of Fred leaving. Thank God I finished reading the Minnesota part before I freaked out completely.

If I'm Fred, I wouldn't leave unless I could have some type of GM influence too. I'd also be waiting to see if OKC flames out in the first round. If that job opened up, he could take them to a couple NBA Finals appearances.

At 6 million a year I'll help "rebuild" a kevin love-less twolves team. I can coach a team to lose 60 games.

My gut feeling is Fred wouldn't have agreed to raise if he was going to look at NBA jobs this year. If we hadn't heard that news yet, I'd be worried.

The next head coach of the Wolves will be their 11th coach in 25 years with only Saunders lasting 10 years - Fred understands this 'great' job better than anyone, and the lack of security, and will make the right choice for Me, I mean his family...

fixed it for all of us

Not sure what Fred has to say to keep some people from freaking out. He isn't going anywhere.

I'm not going to suggest that Fred is going anywhere. I don't think he is. And I don't know why people spaz over it anyway. If it happens ... it happens. Seen the coaching carousel at ISU for 25 year. Sun will rise in the east.

But why anyone puts any stock in what a coach, GM, anyone says, is beyond me. Chiz was "firmly entrenched" (thankfully not). And no - Fred isn't Chiz. Floyd wasn't leaving either. The list of coaches and player who said X and did Y elsewhere is endless.

Fred's dream is to coach his kids. He wants to retire here. Nothing is a statement of commitment or an absolute. And even if he came out and said "I will never leave Iowa State and will retire here in 2040" - what he says in a quote is hardly contractually binding.

He can say whatever he wants. Whatever serves him the best at the time. And then do whatever he feels is best for him at another. Situations change. And yes - even from signing a 600K raise in April, to the end of the NBA season in June.

The speculation is pointless. But holding onto a quote is also such.

People who are referencing CFH's salary increase as the reason he won't leave are wrong. He made more money but the contract terms and conditions stayed the same. He could leave now and it would be almost the exact same as if he would have left a month ago. The only difference is his salary here now. Still only $500,000 NBA buyout and that's chump change to most all NBA franchises.

I hope Fred never leaves and has learned from KF how to leverage the threat of a pro job, coupled with even minimal success at the college level, into annual increases and contract improvements at the college level. The only change I would hope for is that the threat of a pro job is not necessary because of Fred's phenomenal future success at the college level.

I thought this was old news and he said a few weeks ago he was done b/c of his wife's health.

I will be willing to coach the team for $1.5 MM / year with a 4 year contract. We will load up on lottery picks and hopefully i land the next Lebron, even i think i could coach that kind of team to 45 wins and probably a playoff spot.

Its not the money part of the new contract. But I don't think he'd agree to it unless he was going to stay.
