.. for the second time, along with Steve *****.

Actually, it was a compliment to ISU - but still funny the overall point.

Said that iowa shouldn't schedule Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Arizona State, etc - because really the way the BCS is setup, SOS means nothing. That they should schedule a bunch of nobodys and get to 7 wins and a decent bowl. 9 wins gets them to probably a min of the Cap One bowl.

Ahem..... Western Michigan, NIU and Syracuse. Sagarin #'s 103, 110, 144 - along with ISU's ever so humble 93. And they still went 2-2.

Who's left for iowa?

Newsflash - schedule isn't the problem.

But he also said we shouldn't be playing the likes of Iowa and Utah either.

He's kind of got a point. Need 7 wins to guarantee a Bowl bid.

How much easier of a schedule can they want?

Ah, I'm just picking on him a bit. He's not wrong as evidenced by a couple of the BCS players this year.

But on the heels of this season - I found it rather funny....

I know. But I'm not hearing much of the same talk out of our camp. Not playing iowa, don't play Utah. I think most ISU fans are a little psyched to up the competition a bit.

Point being - who's left?

You kind of have to agree if you took Iowa or even UNI off the schedule and filled them in with as many as you can North Dakota's and Temple's and Florida International's make it as easy as possible to get big win #'s ala Kansas

I think the NCAA should mandate a non-conference BCS conf vs BCS conf challenge to start the year. Make the product better instead of worse.

If we want 7 wins, we SHOULD schedule Iowa. How many other teams can we beat 7 out of 10 times?

I see his point and should be used in other situation than Iowa. We are now going to see everyone play cupcakes to get past that 7 win mark.
So once Chizek gets a team together we need to play:
4 cupackes and win just 3 conference games and bam....If your fans travel well you will be invited to a decent bowl. ISU has a disadvantage with most of our bowls being in Texas, but you get the point.

You can win the non-conference cupcake games. But if you are going get to bigger bowls and get more media attention you need to win conference games. Why should we settle for 7 wins and a mediocre bowl game when we can have better, I think that is the new goal of this program.

This problem could be solved for the whole Big 10 by adding two more conference games and having everyone play everyone else in the conference.

Haerd Gary Barta has his scheduling work cut out for him. Some of the comments on our wiretap from the Barta phone are shown below:

"Are the Poor Sister of the Western Trails available for any more games?"

"Does EA Sports field a football team?"

"Do any Canadian teams north of Torronto icecap play football?"

"Can you split your squad in half and play each other and count it?"

"Can you get credit if you are playing Dubuque Wahlert or the Monastery?"

"Can you play Creighton Football Club and get credit?"

"Do Eskimos want a big pay day?"

"Are English rugby teams a guaranteed win?"

"How big and fast are Chinese football teams?"

"Who does the scheduling for Kansas State and Kansas?"

"Where is University of South Ceres (USC) located?"

You get the picture - you need to find the filler before you cut the tie that binds - and you need to look very deep to find a guaranteed winning fill.

Hmm, Let's see, Iowa could schedule more of Maines opponents:
Monmouth
Hofstra
William and Mary
Stoney Brook
Towson
Northeastern
and add in these powerhouses
Coe College
Cornell
and maybe even Kirkwood, I'm betting they would give Maine a run for their money.
